I'm aware of all your epithets about myths, neuroses, etc. But can you name a theologian? If you don't feel like you should know the name of any theologian, maybe this question isn't for you.

Zero, clearly you lifted that from the internet. How is Josh McDowell a theologian?

Fourmorebeers: I did say "theologian."

Buffy: I've read much Nietzsche. As great a thinker as he is, he isn't the best apologist for atheism because of his anti-realist metaphysics.

Georgeous: Rev. Martin Luther King was not a theologian. He was a minister turn social activist.

Don P: You do need to go on. Those are all evangelists, pastors, and in Dobson's case, child psychologist. Graham did not go to seminary.

Shapsjo: You cited theologians, but not from the last 300 years.

A Jewish theologian is Rabbi Kushner. I've not read Isamic theologians. All I have read is Averroes, but he is more a philosopher. And he is from the middle ages.

None of what anybody here has said are actually theologians. John paul II was not one, neither Billy Graham or Martin Luther King.
Theologians such as paul tillich, Hans Kung, Joseph Ratzinger, they didn't mention
to the one before me:
You mentioned several theologians that are more than 300 years ago, so Ok. I will pick your challenge, Theologians not catholic:

Benedict de Spinoza, Moises maimonides, Avicenna, Averroes, Soren kierkegaard, Hegel, etc
But i am not atheist, so i don't count

I guess I am more an agnostic than an Atheist. However, to many more conservatively religious people (Christian, Muslim, Jewish, etc...) one is a good (or bad) as the other.
Christian Theologians...Thomas Aquinas, St. Augustine, St. Francis, Martin Luther. I do not know if Saints count in your book, and all are too long ago, so I guess you win. Yeah:(
I would challenge you to name as many non-catholic theologians you can think of. Or better, how about non-christian theologians.
Try naming one from each faith: Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu?
Think about it.

Let's see... Billy Graham, Oral Roberts, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, James Dobson, Robert H. Schuller... Need I go on?

With so many militant fundamentalists nowadays trying to force all Americans to submit to their beliefs and thus their authority, it is almost impossible for anyone, including athiests, not to know a number of theologians, particularly political pseudo-theologians.

Why would an atheist quote a Christian theologian? Surely this would be an anathema to them. Why not try a philosopher like Nietzsche?

I'm not sure that most christians can cite a single Christian theologian from the last 300 years.

Do you mean apologist or theologian? Would you count the Popes, the Mormons, Quakers? Do let me know.

Oh and by the way I did study Philosophy as my major so I count myself as pretty well versed in religious dogma and theology thks.

And as a further response to this and your previous question, it is unlikely that many athesists read theologians in their source material in the same way we do not read alchemists or neo-nazis, it just isn't all that interesting.

While I can't name any theologians (I'm just not interested in theology), I'm curious as to why you want Atheists of all people to name some. After all, how many people rely on the opinions of theologians to decide what to believe in?
