If I were God, and people were praising me: I would be all like: duh.

This a simple and thoughtful question, and one that took me by surprise. We kind of grow up with things, and take them for granted, though there seem to be logical flaws in them.

I don't think I am ready to answer this question yet, but I'm going to give it some thought and look at the responses you receive.

After reading your responses, and giving it some thought, the best I could come up with is that the praise is some kind of connection, rather than compliments or flattery.

But that didn't seem to make sense, or fit the definition, so I went to Wikipedia, and tried to sort out their definition.

If we think of God as impersonal, (or spiritual) rather than personal and human, then perhaps praise would be a form of connection and influence...kind of like encouraging your own spirit to commune with a higher spirit. If we view it as a positive union between two: the person praying/praising and a spiritual God... then this wikipedia excerpt might make sense:

"Most...are responsive to praise and will increase in self-esteem or confidence if a suitable amount of praise is received -- in fact some psychological theories hold that a person's life is comprised largely of attempts to win praise for their actions."

Although, we tend to think of indifference to praise as a more mature attitude, Wikipedia goes on to say:

"Other people are less affected or even totally indifferent to praise, for example people with autism or schizoid personality disorder."

Maybe the praise is for what we become together. Kind of like a husband and wife on their wedding night...an ecstasy that surpasses words...and embodies true love, for each other and the experience.

*** Why does God require praise.? ***

Apparently God requires us to praise him because he is unable to praise himself.

The Bible Proverbs 27: 1 - 2
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth. Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips.

Yes, duh. Gods need praise, indeed requires it to remain alive among us for sure.

Have a pleasant day.

I don't know. I have a big issue with this one as well.I don't expect to be equal to God. But why are people on their hands and knees begging for forgiveness. Why are people singing endless songs of praise. Why?

God does not require praise, that is why you have freedom of choice to praise him or not. If God required praise He could have created us without intellect or freedom.
God gives you the freedom to choose wether you want to be with him, wether you want to turn your attention to him or not. When you do this, your will is in ahrmony wit that of your creator, but this is your choice.

PSALMS AND SONG FOR JESUS IN THESE LAST DAY

Eph.2:7 Joy in the lord is for ages to come.
Eph.3:21 the world with Jesus is without end.
King David sang songs or Psalms 77:5,6 as time passing bring all closer to SALVATION

Eph.5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Eph.5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Gal.5:22,23 But the fruits of the Spirit is Love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there
is no law.
THE ONLY TIME TO HAVE A HEAVY HEART BEFORE GOD IS FOR THOSE IN SIN FOR SIN:
2Tim.3:1-7; Matt.10:34-38[ Them shunning you or you shun them must be done ];
[ Sinful company spoils goodly intentions many ways, in last days ];

Same reason we want our kids to be grateful to us and honor us. Same reason we accept the praise from our dogs.

Are their any parents or petowners out there that prefer to be disrespected and disregarded?

God desires voluntary praise as an outward sign of you love and devotion to God.

God does not require it. If it were mandatory it would not be voluntary.

God doesn't require anything! God DELIGHTS in the praises of HIS CHILDREN! Don't you enjoy it when a loved one just starts loving on you? Well, it is kinda of the same thing. ( I am trying to explain it)
