at first they looked fine but now they look "ashy" I contsantly clean them but they start looking ashy again. What could this be? Should I use some sort of special cleaner? Help!

murphys oil soap

Sounds like the woods too dry. Try murphy's oil soap. Also go to home depot or lowes and ask if there's a wax of some sort that could help.

You may have to restain them. Perhaps the colour you chose is not suitable for the timber of your cabinets?
