Well if you lived near me I would say go to Tae Kwon Do since it's 80% kicking and so it's a great workout. Also my master likes to have women in his class..it's a safe place for you. The kickboxing schools I've been to are mostly male and they are sort of like boxing gyms. Some health clubs now have these Tae Bo classes that are a great workout but I don't think they teach you any martial arts skills.

The scream (Kihap in Korean) is an integral part of traditional martial arts. It is also a great way to relieve stress. Give it a try.
Look for a good instructor in a traditional art. Avoid schools that do not emphasize forms (Hyung, Poomse or Kata). Try or at least watch a class before signing up. If the instructor won't allow this, leave.

well since you said you don't like yelling (and a Kiai definitely qualifies as yelling) then I'd suggest you take up aroebic kickboxing instead of Martial Arts in general.

and setter505; Tang Soo Do is a Korean Martial Art and not a Japanese Martial Art, which Karate was developed: Japan and Okinawa.

Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do were developed in Korea.

Nice try though

To be honest its really down to what you want to get out of doing a martial art. It's easy to say do this or that martial art. However your decision should be made on your goals and if that particular school can help you achieve them. The actual martial art is irrelivant, as a martial art is only as good as the person teaching it.

Martial arts targets your body mind and soul. It helps you grow in so many ways.

Kick boxing is a workout without the growth in spirit.

Go with Martial Arts and keep both mind and body in great shape.

Well I can recommend kickboxing as a great way to tone up and get fit .

My classes are a good mix of men and woman, young and old and theres a great mix of aerobic and strength training.

And not to put too fine a point on it all the girls seem to have fantastic a$$es due to their training ;)

i'm thinkin..if you're the quiet type, try yoga. if not, try Tae Kwon Do. no grunting required. i have been doing TKD for a while now. i think its fun and gets you in shape. i'm a short little guy but i have been known to take down bigger, "tougher" guys in self defense.
