Should I charge a flat fee? Should I charge per day (since it is taking me away from my usual life for several days)? And I have more than one student that I am playing for, and I am not quite sure how to divide that up either.

My bet: charge them expenses for your travel, housing, meals, and other unavoidable costs. Then charge them your regular performance fee, just like you would if you were playing for them right there at home. Then charge them a per diem for your time, because if you're traveling to play with them you can't do anything else. How much you charge for your per diem is up to you; estimate the value of the other activities you would be performing if you weren't traveling with them. Don't be exhorbitant, but don't short-change yourself either.

You could get them together and ask for a group rate.

Expenses, of course (Travel, Hotel, Meals) (could be estimated ahead of time)
Plus hourly for work time (rehearsal, performance)
Maybe a Daily Fee, or you can build that into the hourly.

Divide your expenses by the # of students and charge them that, flat rate, plus hourly fee for the work you do with each of them.

Or modify this to fit your situation.
