I find that religious people act 'good' but when no one's looking they are really mean and talk badly about anyone while non-religious people are normally mean but tell it to you in your face.

Honesty is non-religious apparently.

Why lie and act like you like someone and then go bad mouth them behind their back, face it we live in a world full of strive and discord and it is all for the greater glory of Goddess Eris Discordia.

Is it good to be mean to people and be honest, or should I lie instead?

Or should I just laugh my as$ off while everyone else is fighting each other while claiming their religions are for peace and love?

Another alternative would be to be at peace, have nothing against anyone and sit back and watch.

Generalization is to judge a group of people based on a few subjects for instance all french are snobby or all dogs are aggressive. You will soon realize that everybody has their flaws but no single "group" of people share the same personal flaws or strengths. You must understand that some people try to be a better person by changing their character and behaviors and these attempts may appear to be fake what should be realized by those people is that to be a better person one must change their thoughts and beliefs whether it is in a God form or their beliefs on life situations. That will internally change a person. Are you a positive thinking person or a negative thinking person? Once you gain control of your thoughts to reverse even the most negative situations into a positive, life will come at you with blows that carry low impact.
You are asking if you should lie or be mean and honest. The answer goes back to what we learned in our younger days, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Use common sense when talking to or about other people, how will it affect that person if it got back to them. Obviously you don't like it so how would it be helping the situation if you were to do it to others.
It may not seem like it but when you feel deeply that you are a good person and set examples by thinking in a positive manner you are looked up to by good people that want to be around you and be more like you and that is called admiration.
Those certain people that you know that are bad mouthing people should step outside themselves and see the impact it is making on you and the people around them. I have even devoted some of my energy to console you on the matter over it.
That's negative impact.

Religion is full of 6 day sinners and 7th day repentists (at least for 2 hours or so before the sin can begin again).

Honesty is the best. And like they say, the truth hurts. But, you lie everyday, as does everyone.

Q: "How are you doing"
A: "Fine"

Liar. What about the sh*tty nights sleep you had. Or being hung over. Or that crick in your neck. Or the underwear riding up your a*s.

My point is, everyone lies. So go ahead. You only get one chance here at earth before you become fertilizer, so do whatever makes you feel good. If you like to lie, then do it. If it is easier to tell the truth and watch them squirm then do that.

As for others fighting over religion? Doesn't affect me at all. Let 'em all die, we have an overpopulation problem anyway. The Earth runs best at 2 billion people to balance or natural resources. We are at over 300% capacity now, so the more people kill each other, the better it actually is. So go ahead and laugh, I do.

I was a religious man
but I wasn't mean .. maybe i was confused trying to know if there is a god or not..

I think we are what we are even if we forget sometimes

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

I've found that many religious people simply use their professed belief as an insurance policy, 'just in case' there is a God.

I have also found these religious, holier-than-thou people to be two-faced, not adhering to their religious teachings, stealing from work, lying, cheating on taxes, not giving generously to the poor, while maintaining a steadfast outward appearance of religious propriety.

I follow the tenets of secular humanism, simply because they express how I feel. Before I discovered humanism, I acted in the same manner; it's normal for me. I feel no qualms about discussing my atheistic beliefs with religious people, often attacking their intolerance of other religions, and hypocrisy in personal actions.

You can't be honest all the time, what will you do when people are honest with you and call all types of name and no one likes you and you dress like a dork, think being completely honest about everything is mean, go home and talk about them that way no harm is done, be nice would you, how will you ever keep a mate, for gods sake use the brain and think, do something nice for someone you don't know that way you don't ever have to discus it

You are right in that there is a lot of pretense about how religious people try to act holy, to put on a front of innocence.

I once heard Rev. T. D. Jakes on TV saying that nobody knows bigotry until they have experienced it in the church. That sort of situation hardly seems to be what religious people will admit to portray, even though it happens often -- and it is an excellent example of what you speak of. Thank you.

Unfortunately, the world is full of back stabbers and liars. I don't think that religion has anything to do with that. It is wise to keep people at arms length at work.

I really laugh when I see the religious claiming to know who is going to hell. Just take it with a grain of salt.

No one has the inherent mandate for hypocrisy. The difference between religious people and non-religious people is that the public doctrinization of "act good" makes it simpler for everyone who disagrees with them to point out the hypocrisy.

I have to agree with you. If have had the exact experience with so called "religious" people. I don't consider myself religious, I tell it like it is, not to be mean but because I don't believe in blowing sunshine up everyone's a s s. I would much rather be told the truth no matter how hurtful it may be than be buttered up.
