I am Canadian, and I'm definitely none too keen on that idea. Actually, it's driving me up the wall.
Yes, Canada has a lot of land, but it's no reason to dump the unwanted baggage from the US in our laps. We can't afford to become what Australia was to the Brits originally.
And if we did the same, first the US government would be sealing up the border as tight as can be, there would be outrage all around and Canada would be under sanctions.
Because the US are exempt from playing by everyone else's rulebook. They can, after all, bully everyone around and do to anyone else anything they want and it's fair and square. But the moment someone does something to them, they cry foul.
Gotta love those double-standards.

Sounds like the people of Canada are learning a lesson we have known for years - liberal judges care only about the perverts and not victims. How this was able to happen as the man has American citizenship is against everything I understand. Does he have duel citizenship due to his wife and daughters? I would be contacting my local government if I was you and seeing how this legal loophole could be fixed .
There is an outcry in America every day about liberal judges that give prevents a easy sentence or therapy instead of hard time in jail. You missed it because it didn't affect you.

Wait a minute, there are 2 things here. The judge is an idiot that's one problem but the Canadian gov. could expel him can't they as an undesirable?
I'd say part of the problem is on your side.

TORONTO, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- A New York state judge's sentencing of a U.S. sex offender to serve his probation in Canada has riled Canadian politicians.
The uproar began Monday when a Cheektowaga, N.Y., town judge Thomas Kolbert sentenced former teacher Malcolm Watson, 35, to three years of probation at his home in St. Catharines, Ontario, instead of one year in jail for sexually abusing a 15-year-old female student.
Watson is a U.S. citizen and, under the sentence, can only return to the United States from his Niagara-area home and his Canadian wife for probation hearings, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., reported.
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty lashed out at the decision Tuesday and called for the Canadian federal government to intervene, the Globe and Mail reported.
"We will work with the federal government and we hope we are of one mind in this regard to ensure that we don't become some kind of a dumping ground for convicted offenders south of the border," he said.
Canada's Immigration Minister Monte Solberg has not indicated what action, if any, the federal government will take, the CBC said.

Isn't the point that he legally entered your country and was dealt with by Canadian authorities in the manner they feel is appropriate? If he was sent back to the U.S. by Canada, he would have to serve time by our law. If you have a problem, take it up with the Canadian goverment. Not sure of the facts in this case, but why would we whine about sending a sex offender out of our country.

That isn't all of it. Why should any bleeding heart Judge put an animal in with children, even his own. Ok so he stays at home and molests his kids, it what what Immigration is waiting for. He should be deported and jailed immediately. He really needs to be exterimated like the sicko he is. I agree with you 100 percent. I get alerts when one those alleged persons moves into my area. Maybe it would be a good idea to put them all on an island and let them molest each other. Isn't there an island somewhere up there? You did good in writing this up.

I'm an American and I haven't heard about this.
I think this is absolutely ridiculous. If the tables were turned we would be protesting in the streets by now.
He should be sentenced to prison here and only released when he comes out in a body bag.

well for one thing Id be concerned for his daughters, isnt there a chance he could rape his own children? I dont know the deal with his wife but Im scared for her too. This isnt right and the judge who does this needs his **** kicked pardon my french. Being on canadian soil does not make him safe, if he lived on mars he would be a danger to the people on mars. This man should be locked up and the key thrown away.

i think this guy will be on his way back to serve his time in the States, we haven't heard the end of this by far and it certainly won't happen again. We are not a dumping ground for criminals, be they sex offenders or dirty politician's.
