Once I had just dyed my hair some new and interesting color (several colors and a couple of years ago), then a couple of days later, at my gyno's office, the receptionist said she liked it, then commented that she might try it too if she wasn't fat. I'm overweight too, and I was kindof insulted. What did she mean?

you can never be "too fat" to change youre looks. she probably just needs more confidence and self-esteem.

Take a picture of you self with a black t-shirt and stand in front of a black background. Use different colored markers and shade in over your hair in the picture. If you think the color looks right then change your hair color, but if you don't like it, wash the marker off of the picture and choose another color. Make sure that you have the flash button on when you take the picture of yourself. You can also do the same thing if you are thinking about cutting your hair. You know, this is just an easier way to see yourself in a different way with out doing anything to yourself physically. I hope this helps.

She probaly was not insulting u. She probaly meant that she does not want to dye her hair different colors so every1 pay attention to her. She is already fat and that is how she wants to be without all the attention, then dyeing her hair to get more. Do not take it serious though ask her what she meant.

OK, here's my take on the situation that may or make not help. This receptionist said she liked your hair, I assume this was a genuine compliment on her part. Now the insulting part was (to you) that she thought she'd like something like that if SHE weren't so fat. Have you considered that although she did truly like your hair that she herself isn't comfortable enough with herself and her body image to attempt a hair color or style that MAY attract attention to herself? Maybe she feels that if she does something out of the ordinary or attention getting with her hair that it may cause attention to be drawn to herself that she is not prepared to deal with BECAUSE of her own insecurities about her body. For some people it is far better to blend into the background than to risk being noticed. Maybe she feels she attracts enough attention (and not all attention is positive) by virtue of the fact she is "fat", and doesn't want to risk attracting more attention. In a way this insult you have perceived was more of a two-fold compliment: 1)She liked your choice in hair color AND 2) She was applauding your ability to be comfortable enough with yourself to draw attention to yourself.
It's only my opinion, but I think instead of allow this all to be insulting to you, enjoy the fact that someone saw your strength and beauty and cared enough to mention it.

I have no idea, that was a stupid comment for her to make and yes, it's perfectly safe. Maybe she had very little self esteem and didn't want to stand out. Just ignore it and you dye your hair whatever colour you chose. Take care : )

Sounds like she is very insecure about herself and feels that doing something that would make people take notice of her just adds to her insecurities. She may not even have thought about how her comment would affect you. I would wear or do what I feel comfortable with, if I like it and not worry about how others feel.

I don't know. Maybe being fat, she didn't want to make a drastic change that people would notice.
Don't worry about her comment. Do what you want to do and think nothing more about that ninny.

I don't know. Possibly she didn't want to call extra attention to herself since she was already self-conscious about being overweight??
