There has been speculation that during the missing years of the historical Jesus that he had traveled to India and learned "eastern mysticism". This is purely a flight of fantasy.

I've heard many Buddhists, including his holiness, the Dalai Lama, say that they consider by his words and actions that Jesus may have been a Buddha, a teacher. Some theorize that during the time before he began to teach he may have studied in the east. Buddhism predates Christianity by about 500 years. But he needn't have studied in the east to become a Buddha. They say a Buddha is like a finger, pointing at the moon, and it's silly therefore, to worship the finger, instead of going where it points. The moon is not owned by Buddhism. Look up.

sure, this is an idea of some Buddhists, when they examine Jesus' life and realize he had many of the qualities of a Buddha. A good book on the subject is "Living Buddha, Living Christ" by Thich Nhat Hanh (I may have spelled his name wrong).

It is also said that Jesus was like a Taoist master, and I have heard some interesting comparisons between the teachings of Jesus and the teachings of Taoist masters.
And he is also called a guru by many Hindus. And sometimes even considered an Avatar.

The idea is not to say that Jesus was actually a Buddhist or a Taoist or whatever. For he was definitely a Jew. However, the idea is that in the teachings of the wise, there is a similarity, in all the religious traditions of the world.

There many saints and spiritual master who come to help the fallen conditioned souls out of the material world. Buddha actually tricked the atheists into believing in Him saying there is no God and no soul. He did this out of His mercy so they did not have to go to hell but they would mergee into Gods energy at the time of death. Eventually those souls will fall back to the earth planet to get a chance again to Serve God not merg with Him. He does not want to be merged with He wants to engage in loving pastimes with us. In that Buddha means a wise man, yes of course. Christians in their ignorance about all religion including their own wouldn't though.

Buddha of course was not divine merely a man who many believe acheived a state of enlightenment that no-one had previously, in that sense Jesus can be revered as such a wise man and teacher, nothing about divinity though.
