Yes, and kale and swiss chard, and brussels sprouts, and some others, I think you are not supposed to plant them too near each other, or they will tend to cross-pollinate, and you wind up with weird looking vegetables. The same kind of thing happens with the squash family-- instead of nice edible butternuts, and acorns, and summer squash and pumpkins, you wind up with deformed looking 'decorative' squashes that aren't good for anything else.

Broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower are VERY taxonomically related, even down to being the same genus and species (Brassica oleracea). They differ only in the infraspecific category of variety. Cabbage is Brassica oleracea capitata, broccoli is Brassica oleracea italica, and cauliflower is Brassica oleracea botrytis.
They, along with a bunch of other vegetables including Brussels sprouts, collard greens, kale, kohlrabi, mustard greens, rutabaga, turnips, bok choy, arugula, horseradish, wasabi, and watercress are known as the cruciferous vegetables.
Cruciferous vegetables are unique in their production of glucosinolates (sulfur-containing compounds). Because of the way glucosinolates interact with your body's biochemistry, there's a lot of interest in them for cancer prevention. (Good incentive to eat your broccoli, eh?)
