This sounds like a silly question, but it's one I've often wondered.
First, what kind of pillow is best for your posture (neck/back/head) when sleeping? A big fluffy pillow? A firm one? Or no pillow at all or one that just keeps your head off the mattress?

Second, should just your head be on the pillow? Or should your head and neck be on it? Or should your head, neck and shoulders be on it?

Thank you in advance to all who help answering.

the tempupedic cervical neck pillow is the best, have been using it for 5 years and although my perspective on the matter is skewed because i am in the business of selling such products, rest assured that they do work and have been widely used for many many years...

Please be cautious on purchasing of memory foam because I purchased a memory foam pillow at Walmart and the fumes gassing off of it were making me very sick and it never aired out. After trying to make it work for over a week, even covering it with an allergy cover, I could not take the chemical gases any longer and donated it to the GoodWill store. I then researched on the Internet and found out there are people who have experienced severe health mystery symptoms and they finally discovered their symptoms appeared at the time of purchasing a memory foam product for their bed. So, be careful. I told a chiropractor about it and I smelled the one he was selling and it did not seem to smell as bad. Just a word of caution. That said, I have TMJ and a mal-aligned neck and back and I have spent time on the pillow issue. For a while I tried a feather pillow but I was fluffing it up all night long and disrupting my sleep. The best pillow I have used is the foam (regular foam) pillows that have a hump for a neck rest. I have seen millet hull and buckwheat hull pillows for sale on the Internet and have thought of trying either one of those but haven't as of yet.

Variables are sleeping position (side, back, stomach), and firmness support of mattress (how far you sink in).

Wal-Mart contour memory foam pillow is a good value.
