If your young (under 18) and you mean your parents or other elders, then they probably do. They have gained it through experience. If your older then 18, then thank them for their advice and learn for yourself. I am 40 and my Mom still thinks she can tell me what to do.

Boy that's GOOD question. You're not alone!! I've often wondered that too. I feel my younger brother, although he's sooo nice and a great guy,( love him so)I get the feeling that he thinks he knows best and better than me. I'M the oldest. I've lived longer and have had many more lifetime experiences in other directions than he does.
It's really kind of hard when you are the oldest child, and the younger siblings think you're so naive. I'm still open though to their ideas and listen, hear and tune them out sometimes if I have to.

I don't think it's a matter of thinking they know what's best.I think it's more like, what they would like to see happen for you, because they love you (no matter how old you get). Will you ever stop caring for them the older you get? Of course not. You may not like them all the time but you'll always love them and want what you think is best for them. But the bottom line is whatever will make you TRULY happy (not happy for the time being) is what's best for you. I hope that helps you out.

Because either you are making numerous bad choices or because youre very young still or you ask for their advice too often.

I suppose that it's because they have 'more experience' than you do (though those findings have a tendency to bite you in the butt).

because they will always be older than you, and will always assume that their experience makes them wiser experts than you. it's just part of most family dynamics. guess you just have to grin and bear it.

that is just a fact of life. they probably have good intentions of helping you, though, even if they are totally wrong.
