John 16 26 says 26At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
I have always started my prayers saying Father God in the name of Jesus is this correct.

The best ways to pray:

Three preachers sat discussing the best positions for prayer while a telephone repairman worked nearby.

"Kneeling is definitely best," claimed one.

"No," another contended. "I get the best results standing with my hands outstretched to Heaven."

"You're both wrong," the third insisted. "The most effective prayer position is lying prostrate, face down on the floor."

The repairman could contain himself no longer. "Fellas," he interrupted, "the best prayin' I ever did was hangin' upside down from a telephone pole."

All that was said to tell you that God doesn't want "formal" prayers, He wants prayers from the heart to Him. He gave us a model when He gave us the Lord's Prayer. But that was never intended as a substitute for your prayers, it was just an example of how.

Jesus gave us a template for prayer inMatt. 6:v9-13. You can fill in your own words as needed. I use this on more formal needs. But as for prayer... any way that gets the thought out is OK. I often wi just say ' hey God that is a really neat bit of sceanery you made there' as i am going down the road. That is a prayer... or in great need and trouble "God help me" is just as good as a long winded one.... here is a link to a page I have on prayer. just my pov and not too long, if you care to read

There is no "correct" way to pray. Praying can be anything as simple as just having an inner conversation with God to as complicated as a long prayer in Latin (if you don't know Latin). Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is full of $h**.

The prayer should come from your heart. If your heart knows why and how it is one prays in Jesus' name, one already knows that one should pray in Jesus' name. If your heart doesn't yet know why and how it is one should pray in Jesus' name, it would be advisable to ask God why it is crucial to pray in his Son's name, and how to go about that. God will teach you why and how, if it is his will to do so. Pray for knowledge of his will for your life.

I think there is "room in God" for many kinds of prayer. As long as it acknowledges Jesus as God and the Unity of the Trinity.

I personally get the most out of "conversational prayer" where I talk to God as if He is a counsellor or trusted freind in the room with me. I pour out anything that is on my mind to Him and then wait to see if He wants to speak to me. Either through His word or through the "still small voice".

I pray that you choose a mode of prayer that presses you closer to His heart.

I don't think there is any "correct" way to pray. Prayer is talking to God. Just talk to Him as you would talk to a friend. Tell Him your needs, your hopes and desires, your fears, share your joy and laughter with Him, thank Him ... talk about anything and everything with Him. That's prayer.

I think that's a great way to pray. By putting Jesus' name on it, its like a stamp... it gets sent to Jesus.
But really, EVERY PRAYER gets to Jesus. He wants to listen to us and comfort us in trials and celebrate with us when we are glad. When I pray I just talk out loud to Him as though I were talking with someone I can see, like a friend. I'm just like "Yo, wassup God?" and its cool. He hear's me and loves me. That's all that matters, right?

Prayer should be truthful and sincere and come from your heart and also you should pray so your father in heaven can hear you. God already knows what we are praying for, he just wants us to say it and admit it to ourselves first, the holy spirit/ghost is the one that intercedes for us whenever we pray to God using his son's name.

There is no correct or incorrect way to pray. Praying to God is like talking to him. tell him what's on your heart and mind..he already knows. He knew everything you were going to do or say before you were concieved.Talk to him like you would if he were sitting in a chair in your living room drinking coffee.

There is no correct or incorrect way. Whenever you want, whereever you are. I was raised at bedtime we did our recications. As I got older I realized I didn't have to wait till then. I would send out a prayer of assistance when something was concerning me, and I would send out one of appreciation when something good happened with someone.

You can begin with any introduction you like. They way you do, I refer as the "professional" way (just my terms), and there are many of them. And you can also do it the personal way, as I sometimes do. Like "Hello Lord, I'd like to talk with you today". It is OK to make it personal, a one on one, like you would a family member or a friend. After all He is your friend. I often like the "personal way". I have no format, I just speak what is on my mind. I feel it gives me a closer connection

In short, use whatever way you are feeling at the time. Just follow your inner feelings and instincts. All will be well.

All my best, dave.
