Why remove a wisdom tooth? I hope yours is not to this stage yet...
http://www.members.aol.com/swf08302/wizdk.jpg shows one reason. This is what can happen by the time you are 40 or 50 if you leave a wisdom tooth in place when it is impacted. The red arrows on the x-ray show the grey area that has decayed due to the wisdom tooth being present under the gum. The tooth shown is the exact same tooth shown in the x-ray, but turned so you can see the cavity. Food and bacteria can get down there and you can't clean it out. Eventually, it makes a cavity in the tooth next to the wisdom tooth and makes it so you have to have BOTH teeth removed.

Your 3rd molars or Wisdom teeth are coming in...and yes it hurts like hell. I have my bottom right coming in right now....and Im awaiting surgery....I have been up all night in pain. Motrin works really well as well as Orajel. My tooth is partially out so semi impacted...Is the whole tooth coming up? Is there space for it? Some people can actually keep their wisdom teeth, depends on the size of your mouth and gums...most people do need to get them extracted...hope you have medical coverage..I dont and this one tooth has already cost me $400 this week...and will cost another $750 surgery day.... good luck..

You are getting your wisdom teeth in. Sometimes you can get one in with no complications. Other times you have to have it removed. If you don't then it will get impacted and that will really really hurt. I would recommend making an appointment with your dentist to have the wisdom tooth removed. The longer you wait the worse the pain will get.

Wisdom teeth are often called 21 year molars....and many times they come in crooked or actually almost horizontal (instead of vertical) and this is called an impacted tooth and needs to be surgically removed.

It sounds like your wisdom tooth, you will need to get it extracted. Word of advice if you need oral surgery get put to sleep, I had mine done when I was awake and the pain was unbearable!

Definately get it checked out. In the meantime, rub an asprin on the sore spot, or get some baby ambesol. It will dull the pain.
