Take her to the doctor. There may be a problem somewhere. My son was like that and his doctor directed us to a speech pathologist and our local AEA (Area Educating Agency. They ran some test and came to the conclusion that he had hearing loss in both ears because of so many ear infections at a early age. We enrolled him in early learning at age 2 1/2. He had three years of early learning before starting kindergarten. He started kindergarten 1 year later than he should have by age b/c he wasn't ready. He is 10 now and still see his speech pathologist. He been seeing the speech pathologist all these years, had had tubes in and out of his ears three times and has numerous hearing test. He is doing great and has come along way. He still loves going to school too considering he had been in school 8 years. Have your child checked out by the doctor. It will put your mind at ease. Good luck. Sam

If your child can't talk at all at 4 years old; I'd follow up first with a Developmental Pediatrician. There are serveral Neurological conditions that cause delays in speech, such as Apraxia. You should also contact your School District and have her evaluated for services. You need to speak with the Director of Special Education. They will set up the evaluation.

It's wise to get her hearing checked too. I'm surprised that the Pediatrician has not sent you to a specialist sooner.

GOOD LUCK with your daughter.

A problem is that your third child is talking for her and your daughter doesn't have a voice to respond to anyone, she is probabvly shy and there are probably too many children around she doesn't know how to react to anything, you should teach her by reading to her, and getting a leap frog phonics fridge mate by helping her with abc's and you should let no one talk for her and make her say hi and bye and give hugs to let her learn manners. My niece is like the same way my two year old has a better speech vocab than her.

I suggest you take her to a pediatrician just for a check up to make sure everything is allright. I do not want to scare you but if there is a problem, and I am not saying there is, isn't it better if you find out earlier rather than later. If they find nothing wrong, then don't worry. If you really want to do something you can maybe take her to a speech terapist or an occupational therapist.

Kylie may have a hearing problem -- if she can't hear spoken language, she isn't able to learn it.

Check out this link -- then make an appointment with a hearing and speech specialist through your family doctor.

The good news is she's young and if you catch a problem early there's probably lots that medical science can do to help.

All the best with this.

first off stop letting the other kids talk for her. it doesnt encourage her to speak for her self. also, if she cant talk how do they know what she really means? (i mean really.....)
second, go to the doctor, see where she should be developementally on all levels. at almost 3 my nephew wasnt jumping, or talking. they finally diagnosed his as asbergers (a comminication form of autism). the sooner you find out why she isnt talking the sooner you can get her into speak therapy etc to fix the issue. currently my nephew is about 18 months behind developmentally (but several years ahead on some things like pattern solving etc) and is going to be main streamed classroom wise. good luck.

She'll start talking when she's ready.

You need to tell your other kid to stop answering for her so if she wants something she will be forced to vocalize her needs.
