This may sound a little gross...but true.....a dog has anal glans that usually pop when they poop. It helps lubricate so the dog can "poop" easier. If the dog is dragging her butt, then the glans need to be popped as it is not happening naturally (usually when the dog is on a soft food diet). A groomer could do it, or a vet could show you how to do it. Or maybe she just has a kling on?

There can be many reasons. She might have worms, her anal glands may be blocked (a dog may drag its butt in an attempt to express them herself), it might just be an itch, or something the dog does to amuse herself (I had a dog that used to drag herself in circles while snapping at imaginary flies).

The most common reason for butt dragging is if their anal glands are full. You need to take your dog to the vet or dog groomer to get them expressed. Some people will tell you to do it yourself, but I don't recommend it. An inexperience & untrained person can cause severe damage to the anal glands (like rupturing them) or other bodily injury to the dog. Most dogs will empty their anal glands naturally when they defecate, but some dogs are prone to full anal glands that they can't empty (ie obese dogs or small dogs).

If she is not spayed, she could be in heat (i had a dog that dragged her butt when she was in heat), otherwise, she might have worms or like the other people said, her anal glands might need to be popped. Go have her checked out by your vet, because if it's worms other pets or family members can catch them. If she is in heat, you should consider having her spayed.

When a dog drags its butt across the floor what they are doing is activating a glad in thier prostate, which makes it easy for them to use the bathroom.

that means that you never wipe your dogs but when she is done pooin. Poo must be causin a infectipon on your dogs butt. This happned to my dog. You should start wipin the butt, that will slowly stop the itching and or pain in the dogs butt. DON"T WORRY IS NOT WORMS

Most likely the anal sacs need to be expressed. A groomer or the vet can do it. My vet, in California, charges $15.00. Your dog will be eternally grateful.

It could be worms...
It could be a itchy bottom...
My poodle scoots if he has a "cling-on" and when he first gets groomed.
I would check with a vet to ensure that its not worms but beyond that... there isn't much you can do..

She could need to have her anal glands expressed (yuck). They normally do that when they groom them. She could have worms too. OR, her butt could just be itchy.
