I started having extremely itchy skin on my legs two months ago and since then I have tried five different lotions for relief. I tried Jergens, Vaseline, Suave, Nivea, and some kind of body butter form the Body Shop. All lotions were 'healing' lotions for extremely dry skin. Nothing seems to work for more than a few hours and the itching is driving me crazy. I don't have a rash or anything like that.

get lotion with oatmeal it (aveeno is a good brand).

anything with NO perfumes or dyes. you could be allergic to lanolin, try a lanolin free lotion from a health food store if there is one near you.

you can also take an oatmeal bath at home.

Here's how:

You'll need a blender, food processor or coffee grinder and 1 cup of oatmeal. You can use instant oatmeal (unflavored), quick oats or slow cooking oats- all work equally as well.

Blend or process the oats on the highest setting until you have a very fine, consistent powder. To test the colloid property of the oats, stir 1 tablespoon oats into a glass of warm water. If the oats readily absorb the water and give it a milky look and a silky feel, you've blended long enough.

Giving the bath:

Sprinkle the oats into a tub of running water and stir the water with your hand several times to ensure even distribution.

Feel along the bottom of the tub for clumps and break up any you find. *Take care* getting in the tub - it is slippery! Soak in the tub for 15-20 minutes and pat dry with a soft towel rather than rubbing.

You can use this bath once or twice a day or more frequently as your doctor prescribes.

See a dematologist. I had extremely itchy skin after being taken out of a cast for weeks. I usedRosewater and glycerin, and took long baths where I really scrubbed the flaky skin off of my body. It took several baths to really get the dead skin off and relieve the itch.

It sounds like you have Eczema, you should consult a dermatologist about a steroid cream like Elecon I believe it is called. Also to soothe itchy skin try a nice oatmeal bath with Aveno bath treatments. Good Luck!

The ONLY thing I have ever found that works (& works really well) on super dry itchy skin is Mary Kay's Extra Emollient Night Cream. If you don't know anyone who sells Mary Kay, you can buy sample size tubes of it on ebay.

I would recommend trying Eucerin cream. It is sold over the counter. I have the same problem and that's what my doctor recommended. It is fragrance free so it won't cause any further irritation. It is the best lotion I have ever used.
