But does that mean, that I have to install Windows on my Mac, though the reason I have a Mac is that Im sick of Windows? And is my Mac responding to viruses then?

Joe, that is no response to my answer therefore pretty useless, as I already have a mac, and I have to say I love it, as it is a lot more organized than windows, and as I am a really unorganized person...

exe., com., bat. are "application" file extensions.
You can open these with a "file editor" by starting the editor and then loading the file from within the editor.
In most cases, (except bat) what you will see is a screen with a whole lot of strange characters and/or blanks since most editors, like word, can not properly show the characters from "compiled" programs as these are machine code.
"Hex code" editors will show you more, but unless you understand "assembly" languages, you still won't understand what you see.
Changing the "extension" is NOT recommended as this would make the program NOT runnable, since the extension is what tells your program HOW to treat the file.

Hi there...in order to open any Windows executable files (.exe).
you would need to download and install a free version of Apple Boot Camp and then purchase and install Windows Xp.

exe files are windows executables, so your Mac OS won't know what to do with it. You can use BootCamp to load windows and run the file, but that's a lot of work. :)

Dump mac it is expensive and does not have compatibility with a number of software and hardware.
It has been virus free until now but that will change soon.
People just regard Microsoft as a monopoly but apple is no better.
i-tunes and i-pods just to rip you off.
