If this is homework the answer is (a) if it is you wanting to know then they partially right about Vicksburg. But I would agree with Shelby Foote and say Franklin, it broke the back of the Army and ended resistance with the exception of Nathan Forrest, and other small units. This allowed the yankees to concentrate against the Army of Northern Virginia and the end of our bid for freedom. Let me ask you a question, don't cheat if you do not know just say so who said “Let us die like brave men”? Look up Sam Davis and let me know if it put tears in your eyes?

You could say Gettysburg because the south was never on the offensive again after that.
You could also say Antietam because it was close enough to a Union victory that it enabled Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation the following Spring. That ended all talk of European powers intervening on the side of the south.
The people who say Vicksburg have a very good point. Once Vicksburg fell the Union had total control over the Mississippi River. The Confederacy was split in two.
The original plan by General Winfield Scott (Commander of the Army), at the start of the Civil War, was to secure the Mississippi and split the Confederacy. But Scott was very old (He first fought in the War of 1812) and nobody paid any attention to him so he quietly retired.

GETTYSBURG !
One might argue that Antietem showed the nation that Union forces could stand up to the supposed invincible Confederate Army. But, when one considers the impact the battle at Gettysburg had, the fact that Gettysburg WAS the turning point can NOT be disputed !
With the failure of Pickett's Charge, the battle was over - the Union was saved. Lee's retreat began on the afternoon of July 4. Behind him, this small town of only 2,400 was left with a total (from both sides) of over 51,000 casualties. Over 172,000 men and 634 cannon had been positioned in an area encompassing 25 square miles. Additionally, an estimated 569 tons of ammunition was expended and, when the battle had ended, 5,000 dead horses and the other wreckage of war presented a scene of terrible devastation.
The Confederate army that staggered back from the fight at Gettysburg was physically and spiritually exhausted. Lee would never again attempt an offensive operation of such proportions. Meade, though he was criticized for not immediately pursuing Lee's army, had carried the day in the battle that has become known as the High Water Mark of the Confederacy.
The war was to rage for two more terrible and tormenting years but the Confederacy never recovered from the losses of Gettysburg. And through the deepening twilight of Confederate military might, all who had been to Gettysburg would remember.

Lincoln seen Kentucky using fact the linchpin keeping the Union mutually. the autumn of Vicksburg, MS on July 4, 1863, the day after Gettysburg, gave the Union finished administration of the Mississippi River. Lincoln stated that "the daddy of waters flows unvexed to the sea" in celebrating this victory. This victory additionally allowed furnish to take command of all Union forces interior the west and placed across maximum of his troops to Tennessee and rescue the army of the Cumberland at Chattanooga which then set up Sherman's catch of Atlanta, the March to the sea and Carolinas marketing campaign. Gettysburg on my own does no longer have carried out lots and historians are actually ultimately beginning up to furnish the Western Theater its due interior the effects of the war.

Gettysburg is seen as the turning point but what is over looked is that at the same time we had also won the battle of Vicksburg which gave the union control of the mississippi river and split the Confederacy in two. these two battles taken together spelled the end of the rebellion.
