Assuming no local sales tax and accepting the 6% rate you listed, the tax would be $16.00 x .06 = $0.96. The price including tax would be $16.96.

Like a balloon push one end the other expands. Cutting federal taxes means less available for the states so taxes on the state level go up and deficit rise. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Why that is so difficult for people to believe I don't know. For the people in Michigan the automakers want $50 Billion 30 years ago Gm. Ford and Chrysler made crap cars and when the imports started arriving America's response was not a better product but a tariff on imports. Guess what the Japanese cars still sold. Who wants an expensive crap car? That's Gm's and Fords fault. Now they want $50 Billion in handouts to continue making crap cars? Who had the Prius and other reliable Hybrids ready when gas prices rose? Who were building truck plants at the same time? Give me a break. GM and Ford should have been listening to their customers or at the very least all their red ink a long time ago. Toyota and Honda don't have these problems they just have better cars. I'm also tired of the Republicans and automakers blaming unions. Make a better damn car. They had 30 years and don't deserve a penny. I own Honda.
