I am not a nice person I have done terrible things in my life. What they are are between me and God. But I would guess that you are a lot better person than I am. I couldn't fix my life myself I needed help.. Jesus Christ came in and took my sin and gave me His righteousness. Maybe because you are so much better a person than I am you don't need Christ. After all I'm the hypocrite here not you... Jim

It's not just a christian problem but most religions and like most religions, in their belief it is said to humble yourself but the very moment they start believing they are the chosen or favourites of god, that heaven is reserved for them, they start behaving with pride, and take everybody else for inferior human beings, fools...

Even ascetics fall into this filthy trap!

It seems that Christianity spawns a superiority complex among many that follow that religion. However, some of the truer Christians--whose ideals are often rejected by mainstream "Christians"--do not feel themselves to be superior. Don H is an excellent spokesman for the true Christians of the world.

The type of person you are describing has nothing to do with Christianity. It is the behavior and characteristic of this type of person. Just because a person calls himself a Christian does not mean he is a Christian.
A true Christian should strive to be a better Christian for the rest of his life. A true Christian should never consider himself perfect.

it is not just Christians, it is all cultures, religions, groups feel they are superior to others. I recall a study done several years ago throughout Latin/central/south America. As the researchesr moved from north to south they found that each culture felt superior to the one south of them.
You have met some people that are just arrogant. They would be arrogant if they were Jewish or Sikh.

Christians act that way because it is a part of human nature and the herd mentality to support the home team in an "us vs them" kinda way. They act like they are superior because they are insecure on the inside.

The fact that their beliefs suggest they should do otherwise makes their stance even more laughable. And what do they do? They blame the devil for their own mistakes and hypocrisies. Talk about a lack of personal responsibility. What a shame!

Jesus had more stern words to say to the haughty Pharasees than to the prostitutes... He called them witewashed tombs who looked good on the outside but on the inside they were dead.

God help us from becoming self-righteous and pure in our own eyes!!

As an agnostic in christian family, I can say that not all Christians are like that. But for those who do lack humility, I would say it is because their belief is based on faith, which doesn't allow them to question what they believe. If you can't question then you can't really prove a theory on its own merits. All you can do denigrate other theories.
