My system runs on windows 2000, I have a Windows XP Professional disk but without a code or box, just the disk on its own. Can I upgrade without a problem?

You can update to XP from Windows 2000 but you do need the Windows XP cd along with the serial number. It sounds like you have a copy of xp and not an original cd.
