Being a tonsillitis sufferer myself - the best way I have found to help with the throat is to buy Aspirin, dissolve, and gargle with them. Then swallow the liquid afterwards. this will help with your temperature and help clear your throat, making it easier to swallow. Also i have found that eating toast helps to clear the throat, even though it can hurt when you swallow.

Hope that helps and feel better. Most important thing is to drink plenty of fluids

Try popsicles they help alot! If it hurts to eat, try puddings, jello, soft foods like that..Also, there is something called anis seeds (licorice) that you can boil in water and make a tea, add honey and it really works on the pain. Guaranteed! Lastly, take a cup of warm water and add lots of salt, and gargle, it will really help with the pain (try it right now) and it also kills all the bacteria in your throat.Do that at least 3/4 times a day. Good luck :)

Some Treatment

The goal of home treatment of tonsillitis caused by a virus is to manage symptoms as the body fights off the infection. It includes measures to ease the discomfort of sore throat and coldlike symptoms, such as runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, and coughing.

Gargling with warm salt water [0.25 tsp (1.2 mL) salt to 0.5 cups (118.3 mL) warm water] several times daily, drinking warm tea, and taking nonprescription pain medications (such as acetaminophen) can help relieve sore throat discomfort. Pain relievers should only be used for children older than 6 months. Do not give aspirin to anyone younger than 20 years of age because of its link to Reye's syndrome.

Make sure that you get plenty of rest and regularly drinks fluids such as rehydration drinks, soup, and juice. Although adults may find throat lozenges helpful in relieving sore throat symptoms, lozenges should not be given to young children because of the risk of choking. Also, many lozenges contain unnecessary ingredients that can be potentially harmful. Antiseptic mouthwashes, decongestants, and antihistamines have not proven effective and may result in harmful side effects. 4 Talk to your health professional before giving your child any of these types of products.

A sore throat along with sudden fever and swollen lymph nodes may indicate a bacterial infection. Anyone with these symptoms should see a health professional to be tested for strep throat, which requires treatment with antibiotics. It is important to get plenty of rest and take all the prescribed antibiotics exactly as directed. Keep your child home from school for the first 1 to 2 days of antibiotic treatment because he or she is still contagious during this time and might pass the infection to others.

Tonsils filter out germs that invade your body. If your tonsils become overwhelmed by viruses or bacteria, they'll become inflamed. Depending on the severity of the tonsillitis, treatment can consist of home remedies, prescriptions or surgery.
Instructions

* STEP 1: Gargle every two to three hours with mint mouthwash. Be sure to get the mouthwash onto the back of your throat. See "How to Gargle."
* STEP 2: Take aspirin if you are an adult, acetaminophen if you are a child. Suck on throat lozenges, especially those containing phenol, which help to numb the throat.
* STEP 3: Stay hydrated. Drink iced beverages or suck on popsicles. Frozen liquids help numb the throat. Try hot teas with honey, and clear soups. For some people, warm beverages help relieve the pain of tonsillitis better than cold ones do.
* STEP 4: Get plenty of rest.
* STEP 5: Avoid cigarette smoke and other irritants.
* STEP 6: Check your temperature at least twice a day. If you have a continuous fever, even a low-grade one of 99 degrees F, lasting more than two days, see your doctor. Tonsillitis or acute sore throat pain that lasts more than 48 hours, especially if accompanied by a fever, may be symptomatic of a strep infection, which requires treatment.
* STEP 7: Let your doctor take a throat culture to identify the germs in your throat.
* STEP 8: Ask about antibiotics, if your tonsillitis is caused by bacteria. Penicillin G is frequently prescribed.
* STEP 9: Consider a tonsillectomy for persistent tonsillitis and sore throats.

Eat smooth foods, including flavored gelatin, soups, ice-pops, and applesauce.
Avoid hard, crunchy, or spicy foods.
Use a cool-mist vaporizer or humidifier in the room where you spend the most time.
