I have recently moved to Maine, I have since found out that the KKK and the Free Masons terrorized my mother and her parents to the extent that they had to leave the town that they lived and worked in all because they were White Canadian Catholic. Mom and my grandparents have since long passed away, I have recently found out this information due to the internet and living relatives. Franco-Americans still get harassed, not to the extent that they did back in the 20's and 30's but never the less it still is very prevalent. Should I be angry? Should I just chalk this up as ignorance ? Or should I stand up and protect my heritage by voicing my stance?

Since this is the past and your grandparents have passed away, the best thing for you is to forgive them and let it go. But keep your moral stance and speak out whenever you feel it to be necessary.
People only put other people down when they don't feel good about themselves so they have to make a comparison.
Pray for them.

I think it is interesting that those hateful people would terrorize someone for being Canadian and Catholic. That kind of blows my mind. I don't think you have much reason to be worried about it now- the Canadian Catholics aren't a minority commonly targeted by hate groups- so I think that while we should always be appalled by bigotry, and aware that hate groups exist, you should not feel obligated to take any specific action. Chalk it up to ignorance, and go on with your life. It isn't anything that has changed you or your family in more than half a century.

I would chalk it up to ignorance. The more our lives progress for the better( Scientifically of Course), The more the minds of people seem to become more ignorant. I have moved from Boston to the South. I still am amazed at the ignorance here with regards to the Black Population. It is true that they can carry on to much with regards to their freedom, and getting rid of the Rebel Flag, but they are still Human Beings.

Well if any crimes have been comitted your parents should have reported it. I wouldnt back down from your morals and beliefs, but remember, there are ignorant people everywhere and no matter how far you run or how hard you try, there will always be someone there trying to knock you back down. I wouldnt suggest that you run back to where you came from and go ballistic on anyone, but take what you learn to better yourself from this point forward. Its all about anothers ignorance. Dont lower yourself to their standards.

How about, let it go? That was what, 70-80 years ago? I think times have changed a bit. I mean, what stance are you going to take, that you don't like the KKK? That's not very radical.

The masons do not "terrorize" people, get your facts straight before you make slanderous statements like that.
