He may already be tolerant of the poison. If someone were steadily fed certain poisons in very small doses, they may build up a level of tolerance, allowing them to survive anotherwise lethal dose.
As poisons tend to damage liver and other organ functions, this is NOT recommended.

It could be a number of reasons. They have a strong immune system, their body rejects it, they ate something or took some medication that counteracts it, etc. It doesn't mean that they have super powers.

It just means that person has a higher constitution than other people do.
