Can you please tell me what a ticker tape is and what it's used for.
I searched up in yahoo but I'm still not that satidfied with the results.
We're supposed to use it for our lab on Monday but it would help to know what it is. Thanks

Prior to computers investment businesses would buy a machine that printed a running tape of stock market activity. It made a ticking noise as it printed.

You can see the old tapes being thrown out of windows during a ticker tape parade.

Well they are no longer used for quoting stock prices at the brokerage office; computers are used now.

The ticker tape was invented by Thomas Edison around 1870. It is a telegraphic device that prints stock names and prices on a piece of tape (called ticker tape). The machine as it prints makes a ticking sound, so the name.
