I wrote a question today about the confusion between the party we have for my son's birthday and the party we have for 9/11. People were kind of rude when they heard that was what we did. My husband is in the military and has been to Iraq as have his friends. Why can't we celebrate 9/11 as a day of remembrance? Why can't we throw a party and have a few beers for the lives lost and saved? It's pretty somber as most of the people who come have and/or are going to Iraq--and even though it's a party it's done in remembrance. It’s a celebration more for the lives saved and the lives coming to and from, NOT “it’s great that 9/11 happened.” I guess I just don't understand why someone would have a problem with remembering people lost on and since 9/11. Most people don't even do anything. Does anyone understand the point of having a party or am I just crazy?

Your Irish arent you? I'm with you every family funeral is a party, we talk about the life and times of the deceased and laugh our asses off. But in the funeral home the sad people congregate by the casket and walk to the back when they want to talk about them. Not set up that way just the way it works out. They are gone to a better place so being sad for them is plain old selfish. I think if you went to a memorial then had your party for 911 all would work out.

Some sort of Memorial " party" is actually a nice idea. But I guess people just don't see it as you would....But I understand you on it. Especially considering your hubby is a military man. Those type of events really hit home. And it is nice to be able to have a remembrance gathering to honor those who were lost during 9/11, as well as to honor the troops who are in or have been to Iraq.

I think what you are doing is perfectly okay. and your rights a few years after 9/11 and people act like its is just another day, when it is not. It is a a day of remembrance and you have the right to remeber in any way you want, I would say that it is very patriotic. What is wrong with being with the soldiers of our country on this day and thanking them for putting there lives at risk to fight for our country, to stand up for the people lost on 9/11. I really think it is a great idea, don't pay attention to negative people they just don't understand.

A 9/11 wake/party? I'm up for that. I'm currently stationed in Afghanistan. We have a very nice ceremony here at my FOB on 9/11.

It doesn't matter what question you post on yahoo or any other site, there will always be some lowlife who disagrees with you.

I'm not saying that everyone should agree with everything we say, but its plain to see your what your intentions are, there's no malice or disrespect to 9/11 victims.

you are merely celebrating their lives, instead of moping about it.
I can just imagine all of them up there smiling down at your party.

Nice one!!

P.S I throw parties for any reason. My Mum and Dads death anniversary's, my divorce when it came through, when I'm fed up. etc.

Keep them up!!

I do understand and I do not have a problem with your parties..
There is a fine old tradition of wakes / parties celebrating the life
of a recently deceased person..
Perhaps this concept is simply missed by those who do not approve of your quite reasonable celebrations.

I think I understand what you are doing. Kind of like a party when someone dies instead of a wake, to remember their happy life. I applaud you and thank you for remembering those people.

As long as you also remember the 750,000 innocent Iraqi people we have killed, then I think its ok to have a joyus celebration.
