Yes I think you should tell him because I think he would rather have a late employee than a dishonest one. He will forget about you being late a lot quicker than about you being dishonest. Late is not your short term record but dishonest, that is a permanent record thing if he ever found out that you were lying and that is possible. I was a lot younger and worked for a lawyer. I had the same situation come up and (we had time cards that we wrote down our time on) I clocked myself in 30 minutes early to cover up the fact that I was late, and little did I know my boss was across the street having breakfast and saw me come in 30 minutes late. As you can imagine, when she saw my timecard it was not pretty. I no longer work there but learned a very valuable lesson from that experience and I am sorry that I made the choice that I did. I am normally honest but wasn't that day and It ended in me feeling shameful and quitting.

How important is this job to you? Anything can happen to cause a late arrival. Never lie. Only answer if asked. Is this something that occurs all the time? If so, perhaps you should rethink the time it takes you to prepare for work. Unless there are unforseen circumstances you should not be late. Now get off the computer and get back to work.

Dont say anything. If your boss asks then say you forgot to clock in. You will just get into trouble if you tell them how late you were.

just own up to being late, explain to your boss about the situation that caused you to be late and except responsibility. if you lie about a computer being down to clock in, and if co-workers have successfully clocked in, (i am assuming the computers are networked as they are in my office) you may be terminated for lieing.

Tell the truth. Lying will always come back and bite you in the butt eventually. As long as you dont make a habit of being late you probably wont get more than a butt chewing for it.

Yes, I'm sure your boss already knows you were late and is now waiting to see what your integrity is like.

are you a liar? I think honesty IS the best policy...cause, someone else there before you might tell the boss what time you came in....

no boss wants to hear lame excuses. if yr boss didn't ask then just let it be (hopefully you are not an incorrigible). if he does ask, an apology without lame excuses is good. shows that u hv CHARACTER. :)
