Your mom sounds like my step dad while I was growing up. Over protective. I'm sure she has said quite a few times that "she is the parent and that you are the child. While that is true, having that kind of "attitude" can ruin the relationship you have with her over time.

Maybe you should try and sit down and talk to her...let her know how it makes you feel. And while you know that you are a young adult still living at home and you need to follow the rules, try and point out that you are a good kid and that she can trust you...I mean, of course you're a great kid, she's raising you right?!

It took my step father until my early 20's to realize that he had no relationship with me. To be honest, he was quite lucky that I was willing to try and have one with him. The barriers that were built up from when I was young into my early adult hood were so high...and he never realized it until it was almost too late. Some never get that chance with their children again.

Explain to her that you are your own person and you have your own interests. You've never done anything to make her not trust you. To give you a chance. See what she says. I hope if she gives you that chance, that you, in return, will keep your promises to her. Good luck!!!!

As you don't give your age I can't really say. I have a 19 year old daughter and I can't tell her what to do only give her advice. I do it to prevent her from making mistakes I know will hurt her. She is taking my advice more often as she experiences life. I am her father actually her step father I adopted her when I married mother, we since divorced and after 3 years with her mother she decided to live with me instead. Her mom lives 2 provinces away. When she was almost 19 she decided she wanted her own place. She now lives 2 blocks from me. I help with money, and tutor her for her schooling when she asks. Am here when she needs me and put off going to school in Japan for a 2 year course so I can be here for her ( I'm retired at 52)

Your Mom is only trying to protect you. I would bet I put up with stricter rules than you for far longer than you. I joined cadets at 14 the Armed Forces at 18 was Commisioned the same year and stayed until I was 26.

Thing is if you always behave in a responsible fashion no one has any reason to give you orders. If you behave otherwise you will get orders all your life, not just from your mom or dad if he is around.

No one tells a good example what to do,

but it is very hard to be one,

good examples are leaders not followers, since you are bright enough to ask this question you already know the answer if you are honest with yourself.

I wish you all the best in life including a mother who is strict with you because she loves you. I hope you grow up to be someone every person who knows you holds up to themselves and others as a good example

I'm sure she does it for your own good, to keep you out of trouble. My parents did the same thing and I'm grateful for that :)
