Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Pomegranate juice can be used to make gelatin desserts, sauces and dressing, while the seeds can be used as a garnish or eaten alone. There is no right way to get at the juicy insides of a pomegranate, but these suggestions should help.
Extract the Seeds
Instructions
STEP 1: Cut off the flowery end of the pomegranate. STEP 2: Score into sections. STEP 3: Place in a bowl of water. STEP 4: Allow fruit to soak for 5 minutes. STEP 5: Break the sections of the fruit open in the bowl of water. STEP 6: Allow the seed kernels to separate from the rind and sink to the bottom. STEP 7: Discard the rind and drain the kernels. Tips & Warnings
A less formal way to enjoy the pomegranate raw is to just break or cut the fruit open and extract the kernels with your fingers or a nut pick.
The seeds inside the kernels may be eaten.
Extract the Juice
Instructions
STEP 1: Press the fruit against a countertop. STEP 2: Roll it back and forth to break open the kernels and release the juice. STEP 3: Puncture or cut the pomegranate to squeeze the juice out. Tips & Warnings
Another method is to blend seeds in a blender or food processor, and drain the juice through cheesecloth.

Pomes are great and once you get the nack, they are not that hard.
Take a sharp, short knife with a very point end. Cut into the pome around the stem in a way that the bit of peel comes off looking like a spinning top. Keep peeling away teh pith (the white stuff) until you can start seeing the seeds underneath.
Once you see the seeds, you can see how they are laid out in five sections. Cut the peel along one section (you can peel it a bit like an orange) and try to wedge the pome open. It should break into its natural section. Now you simply need to pull the seeds off rubbing type action.
Once you get the hang of it, it won't take very long at all. In my house, we usually sit down around a big bowl and peel 6 or 7 pome at once. The seeds can last awhile in the fridge. If you don't eat them all right away, that is.
I would not bother with the juice you get in the store. It doesn't take anything like real pomes!
Tip: Try spinkling the seeds with some Port wine and leave them in the fridge for a couple of hours. Stir once in awhile to get an even distribution.

pomegranates are wonderful to eat...symbolic of sexuality and fertility, long life and many other things...there are many myths and traditions assosiated with this fruit and perhaps one of the more known one would be the story of Persephone who was tricked by Hades into eating six pomegranate seeds,etc...some cultures believed the fruit to have magical properties ...i could go on and on...it has many practical uses and benefits many conditions...i suppose what im saying is that i enjoy pomegranate just the way it is i think about what i eat so for me its a wonderful food just like it is...you can buy pomegranate juice too if thats better for you...pomegranate doesnt blend well because of the seeds...unless you dont mind that effect from seeds that makes your juice taste like it has sand in,lol...enjoy it ;0)

They are hard to eat! I used to try and scoop a bunch of the pods into a bowl rather than having to scoop them out of the shell but even that didn't work all that well
I second pomogranite juice but it does take away some of the fun.

After you cut them open, use a tea-spoon to scoop some of the insides out and eat them. Repeat till you've eaten it all. No mess, no fuss, just good taste.

you know as a chef... i have to agree it is awkard... but i had to use about 15 pounds of them before they went bad... and i didn't see the point of putting a handful of seeds in my mouth and spitting em out.. i tried the spoon thing too, to get them out.. then i started squeezing them like you would sueeze half an orange for juice.... and just drink the juice... fyi wear dark colors to prevent stains.
