2:30 arrival, 5:30 departure, unless the invitation says it is an openhouse from 2:30 to 5:30, then you may arrive any time between 2:30 and 5:30, but plan on leaving at 5:30 as well.

5:30. But 5:30 is the end.

2:30 it begins and most folks will arrive 15 minutes prior.
5:30pm means the party is over and everyone begins to leave. (In case of picking your children up at a 5:30 closing time, be there at 5:25pm. Helps the host from having to wait on late parents.) Have fun at your party!!

The times are when the party starts(the first one) and when the party ends(the second one). If you subtract the two in a certain way, then you will find the exact duration of the party. In this case, go to the party(or drop your child of) at 2:30, and leave the party(pick your child up) three hours later. The party lasts three hours.

When guests should arrive and when they should leave. It's the length of the event.

It shows the arrival time and the end (which is when guests should leave, if they haven't left already).
