i have sat with my legs crossed probably starting when i was ten now i am thirty five. i cross them every time i sit down, eventually after a long priod of crossing my top leg gets numb, and i keep them crossed. i have heard that crossing your legs can cause vein problems, i dont have any at all to this point, but is it true that it is bad? because if it is i will try to break my habbit if i isnt i want to keep crossing them because its so comfortable. Also do you cross your legs, and for how long at a time?

yeah i think varicose vains or something. I still do it all the time even after hearing that. I think we should make a pact not to do it again, lol. I cross them when I'm out, nothing to do with showing off but at home I might lie down on the couch and walk around alot. :S Good luck though!

crossing your legs for extended peroids of time does cut off the blood supply to your lower legs and can cause venous stasis and blood clots. It is a comfortable way to sit though and most people do it, the best thing to do if you want to continue to cross your legs is to get up and walk around for a few minutes every so often and switch the top leg about every 10 minutes or so to allow blood flow back to the extremity.

I've had spinal surgery six times. I've been trained to "not" cross my legs due to the pressure it creates pulling the back muscles away from the spine.
If I do cross my legs while sitting I do feel it after awhile in my back so.........I guess they must be right. I also sleep with an extra pillow under my knees to relieve the pressure on my spine, it helps.

Yes, this can cause damage because it affects your circulation. It is generally considered better to cross your legs at the ankle.

i do the same thing.....and yes it is bad for you cause when your legs go numb that means that you are cutting off the proper blood flow to your legs.......it can cause circulation problems in your legs....you can still cross them but make sure you arent cutting off the blood flow and if they start to feel numb uncross them for a while.....or walk around for a little bit....

Yes it can cause blood clotting, which has killed people. Google "deaths from blood clotting" and you'll see. At the least it can cause vericose veins and possible nerve damage. Open those legs honey.

I do it all the time without thinking. I'm told it will cause varicose veins, but so far I don't have any.
