There is an area code chart in the front of most telephone books or you can simply enter the three digit area code into a search engine and see if any other numbers come up with that code that also identify their location.

I used to work for a cell phone company and the area code tells you nothing about the carrier. That is locked down to a specific region. However the three digit exchange *can* tell you who the "original" provider is. Meaning that if someone had a 456 prefix and Verizon Wireless owns that prefix, that means that phone number started with Verizon. But like someone else said, you can port your number from carrier to carrier. So just because that number started with Verizon doesn't mean that it still belongs to them.

You can always call the operator and ask her-or you can look in the front of the telephone book. Also you can check it out on the web

Just do a yahoo search. For example, put " area code 123" in the search bar. It will pull up where it is.

the front of the yellow pages or in the front part of the white pages they have a picture or the u.s.a. with all areas seperated these are your area codes
