First joined the Navy in 1981. I was manning the rails during the Cold War.
In Dec 2003 I was mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Spent 2004 in the middle east heat and sand.
I cried as I watch the men and women of the USS Cole refuse to be removed from their ship after al Qaeda tried to blow it up.
I was serving when Clinton had us in Somalia too. Bosnia and Kosovo are still on the list of places that I may be sent. It seems we're not done in those places yet, either.
I will likely serve two more tours before I finally retire.
I'm already out here defending your right to hold and voice those liberal views you hold so dear. What is your contribution to the maintenance of those rights?

There could be a million people to join the Army and your husband may never be relieved. I just faced the fact that my husband is having fun and he will come home when it's his time! My uncle was over there for two years and just got relieved on Nov. 11 and that is his push back date so we don't even know if he is really coming home! They would not even let his partner go home when his daughter died so u do the math! They say they are for the family but when it comes down to it America is there only family!

HAHA. Some of us did. I'm currently serving in Afghanistan and have been to Iraq and will probably go back. Lets see..... If you are Yahoo Answers as a reference you need help. "Did you know that I heard somewhere on here that "mostly middle to upperclass with college educations" constitute the majority of the enlistees??" Try looking up the Army demographics yourself. There are many well educated people over here with me. Active Duty, Reserve and National Guard. My unit is at over 100% strength.....

Many of those who support the war are either:
A) Already IN the military, and are serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, or have served.
B) Too old to serve, or disabled.
C) Just not cut out for the service.
I fit into the third category. My husband is military. I support him. Many of our friends are down range. I support THEM.
I don't see anything wrong with that.

Excellent Question.
The reason the Bush Supporters won't go and fight for their country is that it is easier to talk a good battle and war, then to produce one.
This is why the military is out in full force solicitating to KIDS that are just out of high-school. Who is fighting America's war? Children!
What is interesting is that Bush and his cohorts all have slammed other countries for USING CHILDREN IN WAR, BUT BUSH OR HIS COHORTS SEE NOTHING WRONG WITH WHAT THEY ARE DOING.
Second: Mature adults will not sign up to be a patriot, because we know better.
We know that war is not the answer and will not resolve the issues. We have also been through other wars and realize with maturity! that even once the war is disolved, that the effects of war will continue in both countries with the following:
1. The country that hosted the war will continue to see the devastation of war through ruins, continuing death from disease, famiine, draught ect...
2. The other countries military families will continue to see the repercusions of war through the psychological make-up of the soldiers who had to fight in the war.
3. Bush and his cohorts and staunch Bush supporters will feel nothing, because they will continue to deny and lie to themselves that this was a terrible a mistake and a lie on Bush's part.
4. My question is why isn't our commanders and chiefs' children, ( they do take women in the army now) and his nephews and neices ( some of Jeb Bush's children) why are they not rushing to sign up for the war.
5. Why are the republican governments family members NOT in the war?
That will never happen, Bush has no qualms at sending OUR children and husbands, wives andf family into a war in danger and harm, but the GOP does not see fit to send their family members into battle. So much for Bush and the GOP patriotism and honour for figting for what they believe in!
Finally, I think that this should become a law!
Any American GOP who wants to go to war, should be compelled to send their own family members on the front lines, incluidng their female family members.
It would be interesting to see how much the GOP would then be WILLING TO NEGOTIATE AND NOT GO TO WAR!

Joining the military isn't the only way to support the war. Someone needs to make the food the soldiers eat, the equipment they use. Also, the soldiers are fighting so that life in America can continue to be free, and so that we can live our lives safely. I thank them for this. We can support the war just by working hard, and doing things that help the country. Teachers, doctors, police...all helping.

someone else said:
" i totally agree why won't bush send his kids why won't the goverment people who are running in office send their children because to them teir children are more important than your cousin brothers and sister fighting for our freedom while they sit in their fancy office eating bon bons trying to figure out what they're going to wear to the press confrence i am NOT against the soldiers im against the war and the person we call our president i say put him over there give him a gun and let him fight what makes him so important? he is nobody to me just like our soldiers are nobody to him"
Soldiers signed up for the military. No one made me join the military, recieve free medical and dental, recieve 100% of my tuition for college to be paid, deploy to Afghanistan, recieve tax free pay while I was there...and no one should even suggest that Bush's daughters be made to go. Clearly no one has made YOU go. The people that you "support" who are over there knew the risks before they signed up and were certainly not forced.
