People constantly put down the islamic veil, please know that the face veil is not islamic but originates from bedouin culture and somehow seeped into the religion, anyway read the following:
The Bible clearly states in 1stCor.Ch 11-vs 5+ "For a woman however it is a sign of disrespect to her head , if she prays or prophesies unveiled; she might as well have her hair shaved off. In fact, a woman who will not wear a veil should have her hair shaved off.If a woman is ashamed to have her hair shaved off, she ought to wear a veil.
Also 1st Tim Ch 2 vs 11+ ; During instructions, a woman should be quiet and respectful.I am not giving women permission to teach or tell a man what to do.
Vs 15: Never the less, she will be saved by childbearing, provided she lives a modest lifeand is constant in faith and love and holiness.
read the rest of those chapters, it gets even more interesting
may peace be upon you

Nice of you to leave out the rest of 1st corinthians, "for this is a custom, but we have no such customs in our churches." This is a jewish custom, not a christian doctrine.

I am a Christian, and think the veil is a beautiful thing. It shows humbleness, submission, respect, and chastity. I don't wear a veil, but what it stands for is appealing.

The scripture you quoted from 1 Corinthians says that the husband is the covering for the woman and if a woman prays or prophesies without a covering, it is basically disrespecting her husband. You forgot one key verse though in 1 Corinthians that gives an exception to wearing the veil. A woman with long hair uses her hair in place of the veil:

1Co 11:15 But if a woman should have long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her in place of a veil.

From what I understand about the Islamic veil and robe, the women wear the robes to keep other men from lusting after them. Think about that: In order to keep men from sinning against a woman, they cover their bodies and faces so they are not seen as sexual objects. That is so respectful!

From what I've been taught, one of the reasons Timothy said that the woman should learn in silence is because back then, the women would sit on one side of the church and the men on the other. The women would often talk, gossip, and yell out questions in the middle of the sermon. Timothy instead wanted the women to sit quietly and listen; and then instead of yelling out questions, he wanted them to wait until they got home to ask their husbands to explain things to them.

My personal opinion is that I do not agree with having women pastors. The Bible does say, "But I do not allow a woman to teach, or to exercise authority over a man, but to be in silence." (1Ti 2:12) If a woman is a pastor then that puts her in a place of authority over men. When the order of authority is messed up, then problems arise, even in homes where the woman rules and the man submits. I do not have a problem with a woman teaching a women's Bible study group, but it does bother me to see a woman be the head.

read verse 15 "But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering."
I don't know what translation you are getting that from but it never says veil in the KJV. Your hair is your covering.

Edited to say I do not put down anyone wearing a veil. But from what I read in the KJV of the Bible, it is not necessary

It is as simple as this. There has been many theories about religion and the orgin of it, including how that religion should be perceived. Yet it seems that if one idea or one perception of that idea ceases to work, then it is simply replaced with another. I would suggest you place your beliefs in something that honors who you are, otherwise you will never have peace with something that creates conflinct in you just by being who god created you to be. I wish you well.

I don't criticise the veil because I know your women are supposed to wear it! But I just wouldn't be able to constantly wear a veil, I'd start to feel a bit weird in it...but that's just me

Many Muslim women who cover their bodies in UK anyway suffer from vitamin deficiencies from the lack of sunlight...so there is a health issue as well as a social issue to consider, a woman hidden from society cannot be a part of society.
