Technically they are right. You cannot mate with a person of the same sex as yourself for reproductive purposes.

Yes it is annoying. It's very difficult for men and women to be just friends (from the male side anyway), there's just too much testosterone going through a mans body to totally ignore the fact that she is a woman.
