Why would you let your son on the Internet out of your site to begin with ? You are the parent and protecting your child comes first always!! To alert authorities save anything you can for evidence and call the local police and ask if they have a predator department.

Put your computer in the front/family room.

Not much privacy in the middle of the house. Tell him why you are doing it and that he's not to be on the internet when you're not home.

Sneaking around isn't the best approach - be straight up with him. You're the parent and you set the rules

go do a web search for the computer supply stores like Tiger Direct and newegg and others
they have this little devise that you put in the back of the computer and set it up so each and every key stroke can be sent to your computer, there are also programs out there that you can install ( they work in the background, no one knows they are there) and they will give you who he writes to and who writes to him...so there are things you can do and usually they are not that expensive..so look around and you will find these items and programs..and they work too.

good luck

If your son is 16 don't worry so much, its women that are in greater danger. Just tell your son not to believe everything they tell him in the chat rooms and tell him not to do stuff like trying to meet chat-buddies because they could be gay rapers. Trust me that will keep him pretty much out of trouble, most boys just chat for fun and don't have any plans to really meet their chatting buddies sometimes they even lie about themselves. Only the few that take chatting too seriously are the ones in danger

If he has IM you can sign into that and see if anyone sent him any messages while he was away. I'm not sure AIM has that but I'm pretty sure Yahoo Messenger has it.

If your son is 16, he is too old for you to be prying in such a way. He is entitled to privacy and will only resent you if you violate it.

A 16 year old can take care of himself. If you want to know who he is chatting with, then ask him. Don't do it behind his back.
