Maybe some of the other ghost and goblins he has seen has scared him. Have him a non costume party and invite a few family and friends over. God Bless

I've known some kids that just don't like trick or treating. If you think it's the dark let him hold a flashlight while you're walking and make sure he understands what an important job he's doing by lighting the way. Alternatives though could be fun too. There a plenty of not scary Halloween films for kids he'd probably like. The Halloween Tree is awesome for example. Cook Halloween treats together (pop corn balls, Carmel apples, rice crispy treats) or see if your local community center is perhaps throwing a Halloween party. Good luck!

Don't make him do it if he doesn't want to!! Halloween is evil, maybe he feel the spirits that is ever present during this time of year and doesn't want to have anything to do with it. It sounds like you have a very smart little boy! You should learn from him.
Why would you want to make him do something he doesn't doesn't want to do anyway? Is it a pride thing? Are you wanting to have something to talk about with your co-workers when they start talking about how their children looked or did? Your child's feelings are more important than that. Respect him in this decision. He may be only 4, but he has a right to choose some of the things he does. It won't hurt him by not doing it, but it just might hurt him. Be thankful that you will have a little more 1 on 1 time with him. Rent a video he wants to see, pop some popcorn, make a pallet on the floor and enjoy some time with your smart little boy!

My son is three this year and is showing fear of trick or treating. When we go to the store, he is scared of all the costumes and decorations. Since I figure he won't wear a costume. I am dressing him similiar to what he normally wears. He is going to be Thomas (thomas the train) He is going to wear his Thomas overalls and a Thomas hat. I want to ease him into trick or treating. So we will only go to houses that we know. Next time we will go further. See if the local church is doing a party or something or the local ymca. (if your afraid that wont work) Good luck.

As for the costume, try dressing him up as something that's not so different from the way he dresses every day. For example, a cowboy. As for the fun, check around at all of the churches they usually have stuff going on that's not scary like trunk or treat and you usually don't have to worry about the candy. hope this helps.

Find out if any of the malls near you are having a "safe trick or treat" night. Then he would be inside in the light.
Sometimes churches do "trunk or treat" and have people park their cars in the parking lot and TOT from car to car. Or sometimes they have safe parties inside.
Try your local parks department. Sometimes they have preschooler Halloween parties.
Try the Children's Museum or Zoo near you. Our zoo does something called "Zoo Boo" where you wear your costumes and TOT around the zoo.

Good suggestion on the church trick or treating and the mall. If he likes having his face painted then do that and then fix his clothing with whatever his face is painted to match. You don't have to do a costume. Get some buddies to go with him so he will see they are having fun and so can he. Invite a cousin or BF to go.

Ah, particular, I bear in recommendations my 4 year ols halloween occasion. attempt classic video games like bobbing for apples and in step with risk have a grool (Orange pudding) ingesting contest. set up video games and supply out halloween themed small prizes. Then play halloween music (like the monster mash) and play musical chairs or dance freeze. Then supply out halloween goodies you and your 4 year previous made jointly. persist with the classics. Have each physique positioned on their halloween costumes. =)

I've never had this happen to me, but you could get some of your friends to bring their kids over in their costumes and show him it is fun to dress up!!! You could also hand out candy and invite friends over and do a small Halloween party for the kids!!!
