You get a hangover because your body is depleted of sugar and dehydrated. There is one thing you can do before going to bed and couple of things you can do after waking up with the actual hangover.

1. Before going to bed, drink as much water as you can without throwing up. Throughout the night it will help keep you hydrated. Along with the water, take two Tylenol. You also need a high source of sugar - like a tablespoon or two of honey - before passing out. This will help the symptoms in the morning.

2. If you already have the hangover, then drink plenty of water in the morning - in this case, if you throw up that's good. Your body needs to get rid of the toxins and you will lose the hangover quickly. High starch and high sugar items will restore your system. In this case, Advil is the best choice for the achiness you may feel.

3. If you already have the hangover, if you can stomach the idea, then the "hair of the dog" is another solution. That means having 1 drink of whatever got you last night - beer, tequila, etc. This, along with the water and sugar can restore your system as well.

With time . . . NOTHING else works. Caffeine does not work. "Hair of the dog," that is, getting drunk again leads to worse things. The ONLY THING that works is time. It's like asking how to heal a cold. No healing involved; just have to wait it out.

He should have taken some ibuprofen before going to bed for the night (while still drunk). Oh, and LOTS of water, as alcohol dehydrates the body. Sometimes that prevents a hangover.

I do believe in the proverbial "hair of the dog", and I like mine in the form of a bloody mary. The tomato juice is good for you plus that little extra. Don't feed him Tylenol since it's bad for the liver. Use Advil. Strong black coffee, then more water. Maybe some chicken soup. If he has to barf, it comes up easily. Bread and cheese also mop up the stomach a bit. Hope he had a good time, I remember my worst one and won't do that again!

Give him some asprin and a bloody mary with a small beer chaser. He should go back to sleep and sleep it off!

You don't. It takes time for the alcohol to leave their system. The best way your bro can avoid this, is don't drink.
