Its tradition because it takes initiative and men had traditionally been the ones in charge. Nowadays, girls can ask, but it can be perceived as a desperate move.

No, there's nothing wrong with "tradition." Girls aren't supposed to ask guys to marry them. Not only is that weird, but guys are supposed to be strong, courageous, the head of the household, and if he can't even work up the guts to ask you to marry him then he's a worthless wimp!

becuase almost every culture has started out with gender inequality. where women were suppose to "know thier place" and so with that mindset it probably seemed wrong for a woman to ask a man out. but these day it not wrong. depending on what country you live in. In the U.S.A. its ok! ^_^

Well, I have been married twice, and I proposed to my first wife, and my now current wife proposed to me, so I got the best of both worlds on that.

It started out that way and just kept going. Women were considered property and not permitted to ask a man anything, let alone marriage. Now a days, who cares. If you love him and he loves you.........go for it.

It doesn't matter who asks the question as long as it is done.
