You may or may not be held in contempt of court. If this is a hearing where you are supposed to show your income and assets so that they can garnish or attach your wages and assets, they will probably file the contempt charges, and you can/will be arrested. If this is simply a show cause hearing, the person with the suit against you will win by default. They will get whatever they are asking for, so if they are asking fo $1,000 a month, they'll be awarded that amount.

IN California if you do not appear or a lawyer appears with a good excuse why you did not the judge puts out a bench warrant and you can go to jail. until you post bail and you better make the next court date your given or your in big trouble and could go to jail for awhile.

Hehe Yea, you don't go they may come after you and could get you for not only not going but also not paying the Maintence Order...
Better show up and if you don't think you owe hire a lawyer and defend yourself... but weigh the cost as pay the maintence may be less than defending yourself...

You will be held in contempt of court. If that happens you will not only lose the case but you'll also be arrested.
Cut your losses, get a lawyer and go to court.
Remember you owe it to your kid(s).

in most cases "this be a civil case" if you do not appear, the judge will rule against you in favor of the party that did appear in court.
