I make cupcakes with just a little chocolate frosting on top, then you put cookie crumbs on top of that and add gummie worms!! The kids go crazy for it. I still do that and my kids are teens now, hey tell me they prefer cup cakes over cake and I still do it for thier scout functions too! Go Cupcakes and you will never go wrong!!! Good Luck!

Make two bundt cakes. After cooling and taking out of the pans,
put one, curved side down onto a plate. Put icing on the top
of it and then put the other cake, curved side up onto it. (Flat
sides together.)
Now you have a pumpkin shaped cake. Ice the entire cake
with Orange icing. Use a black tube of icing to draw the
face onto the cake. Or use candy to create a scary face.
You can use licorice strings for hair.

first graders are still pretty messy to have to worry about cake and forks, etc. i would do cup cakes with a halloween candy (either a piece of candy corn (v. cheap) or those candies in the bakery section of the grocery store. they have them in pumpkin and other halloween shapes

make a regular cake(not icecream), put icing, decorate it with candy and whipped cream and put oreo crumbs in the cake. If you want you can even but those haloween cake decorations that are edible. I'm sure they will enjoy it.

Here's what you do: make a rectangular cake & make a Frankenstein head out of it. Use cut-up pieces of black licorice for his hair & to make a scar, use green food coloring for the frosting (to make his face green), etc. Have fun!

I would definitely go with cupcakes. If you're good with decorating and you can use a pastry bag (I think that's what it's called) I would recommend making jackolanterns on each cupcake. I've done it before and it's really simple and they look great!
