YES.. dry food helps clean their teeth...

I worked in an animal shelter and somebody brought in their Siamese saying she was 2 years.. the vet tech looked at the cats teeth and figured the guy lied and the cat was 6-10 becuase her teeth were so bad.. she called the guy back - turns out he was right - he had registration papers and owned her since she was 8 weeks BUT he only fed her canned food.....

canned food is good in limited amounts (NOT what the can tells you to feed) 1 tablespoon canned mixed with water actually helps their urinary tract.. a kitten should get 1-2 servings of canned a day (a serving = 1 tablespoon)

but needs dry food avaliable ALL THE TIME.. select a good quality kitten food.. the ones in grocery and wal mart are CRAP with too much filler (corn, by-products) and not enough nutrition - so the kitten needs to eat more and will poop more.. if you feed a better food your kitten will eat less and poop less the food costs more but lasts longer - YOU need to read the lables - get your food from a pet supply store

SCIENCE DIET - is NOT good food- it is over priced for its quality - they actually PAID for vet endorsement and some ingredients like by-products are bad for pets (by-products are beaks feet feathers and are preserved with a chemical pesticed Ethoxyquin.. which is linked to many problems)

Vets are more and more coming to the opinion that a cat diet should not be totally dry food. Especially if the kitten is male. Use 50-50 wet and dry.

Over the years I have fed feral communities and also had a cattery.

I have seen feral cat communites that were very sick get well as a group with the other difference being with a little meat in their diet. Do not feed fried foods to cats.

The main part of the diet should be dry food but a little meat is VERY important to the carnivour.

PS I am vegetarian.

Yes, you should be feeding dry food. Make sure to have fresh water out. Canned food as an occasional treat.

Hi i have worked at a pet store for a few years. You want to slowly chage you kitten over from milk to a soft canned food like wiskas, then try a hard food with a soft center again i think wiskas has one and if your kitten does ok with that then switch to a hard food. All cats under 1 year old have a very sensitive stomache so you don't want to switch from one to the other and back very quickly try the soft food for a month or so then the hard food with a soft center. as long as the kitten keeps eating and has no signs of an upset stomache, constipation or diareah then she /he is accepting it just fine!

Though some people say no I have done it and my cats are alive and well. The kitten I got know is the only kitten I have ever fed kitten chow too.

That is fine, but feed them a dry food that is specially formulated for kittens, Scientific Diet is good, has lots of calories to help kittens grow!

Usually they eat dry food before 5 months, I think when they get weaned from the mama.

yes it is good, even BEST! It helps to clean the cat's teeth.BUT-take time to read the ingredients list-if ash is in the first 3 words-don't use it.My vet recommends a hairball formula. In the first 3 ingredients SHOULD be some kind of meat-not bone meal-meat! have fun with your kitty and you will have a buddy for life! My oldest cat was 16 when she passed away.
