You have my sympathies as a fellow sufferer. I found Sudafed and a nice steamy pot of water or shower to provide the best relief, along with a bottle of Olbas Oil. It is made in Switzerland, and you can often find it at the druggists or in a health food shop. It is much stronger than Vicks or the other things of that sort that I found. A drop in a pot of hot water will nearly instantly clear the nose and help drain it, and you can put a drop or two on a hankie or pillowcase to keep near the nose meantime. I've even put a drop on a washcloth and stood in the hot shower with near my nose.
The other advise I have is to keep the air around you moist, using a vaporizer or humidifier going especially during winter when it tends to be dryer air. Also, things like molds and mildews can be real killers on the sinuses. We had a damp spot develop in front of the door, and the carpet padding underneath got moldy. I had been suffering horribly, and when we redid the door to solve the problem, we discovered the flooring beneath had to be replaced due to the damp. Pulling back the carpet revealed the mold in the pad as well. We had professional carpet cleaners come in to eliminate the spores in the carpet, and replaced that section of flooring and padding. At the same time, I had the cleaners do all the carpets and upholstery, and had the drapes cleaned. Within a week, my sinus infection cleared up and stayed clear for months. I'd been on all sorts of things, including antibiotics at one point. When I mentioned it to the doctor, he said that mold/mildew/dust, and dry air were the major culprits, and it was probably the original source of my trouble. So if you have wall to wall carpeting, or even carpets and heavy drapes, it might be worth a shot to have it all cleaned especially to eliminate the allergens. A professional set up can do it, or you can. Don't know if this will help you, but it has to be worth a shot. It sure helped me. Now when I have a rare problem, I find the actifed, steam and Olbas oil work the best, and I keep a humidifier on during the winter. Hope you get better, and I hope some of this helps.

Are you trying to treat yourself without seeing a doctor? This is an INFECTION we're talking about. The only way to get rid of it permanently is to see an ENT specialist and get an antibiotic and maybe a decongestant injection (steroid) and a decongestant tablet to take by mouth.

If that doesn't get it, go back to the doctor. Sometimes it takes two rounds of antibiotics to get rid of stubborn sinus infections.

Then, keep Sudafed on hand and when you feel the slightest "tightness," in your sinuses, take it according to directions. Sinus infections can be a ***** to treat 'cause there are so many crevices in the sinuses in which little "bugs" can hide. Don't wait . . . . see your local ENT now! Feel better!!

you need to see a doctor, you cannot treat this yourself with over-the-counter medications!! a sinus infection that goes untreated could be FATAL!!!

i had a severe sinus infection many years ago and the doctor explained to me that there were 5 sinus cavities on both sides of your face, and that one of these was linked directly to your brain!! it was so long ago, but i remember he showed me my sinus cavity using some kind of infra-red x-ray.

i personally knew the brother-in-law of a friend of mine who did die from a sinus infection that went untreated. he was 38 years old.
please go to a doctor and get treatment!!!

Why not buy a neti pot to clean your sinuses daily, and hopefuly this will prevent re-infection.
