You need to bleach it to get a good result. Unfortunatly, becaus eyour hair is now permantly a dark color, it will take a lot more work. You need to get a bleach specifically for dark hair. This will prevent it from turning orange or something else (personally one of the many colors I want is orange, but hey.) I actually have a similar dillema right now. I dyed my hair purple, but now I want it teal or green, I can't decide....Anyways, you might have to bleach it several times to get it pure white. I know they sell bleach kits at hottopic, but they are kinda a lot. Try Sally's beauty supply store if you have one near you.
Don't go with a wig. The cheap ones are only cheap because a) they have a defect, or b) they LOOK CHEAP!!!! Most good quality wigs are like 80$ minimum. The other ones are synthetic and look really nasty. You also have to make sure you clean it once a week, and keep it untangled. It is WAY to much work.
Just a side note: If you had your your hair colored less then a month or two ago, bleaching would make your hair very weak. This can result in major frizzies, breaking, and lifeless hair (the kind that has no volume whatsoever) You need to wait at least that afore mentioned time, unless it was non permanent color, which you stated it wasn't (htis is why I can b leach my hair; the color I used was semi, and without ammonia. It actually wasn't manic panic, which is what I will use next time.)
I really like your question, and I am so glad I can help!

please please don't try and do this at home and cheaply! you need to get a professional hairdresser to do this, i have seen some absolutely awful results when hair has been transformed from dark to light without the proper expert involved. if it's just a fad for you, why not try a wig first to see if you like it. if you do, go to a professional, they should advise you that going from dark to blond there is a risk that your scalp with blister as you are effectively burning the colour out of your hair with bleach. i have done this before (was a hairdresser once) to many people and always with good results but expect it to take approx 4 hours (perhaps more) and you may need to do it over a couple of days if the scalp is not coping with the bleach applied to it in one day.

You have to use bleach. It's a bit tricky to do at home, much better at salon and less damage. The bleach will take away the color, turning your hair light purple at first, then light yellow. After the bleach, you have to use a dye with a shade. I advise to use the lightest blonde, platinum blonde.

Use hair bleach. It is with the color at drugstores. Don't just get color, it won't lighten it enough. Bleach has a powder mix with it. It is very strong stuff. It won't hurt your hair the first time, but try not to overlap it when you do your roots or it can cause major breakage.

Become President of the United States. They all end up with white hair in a short period of time.
On the plus side, apparently, anyone can get that job, nowadays...
