I'm considering the nikon cool pix S4 with 6 MP and a 10x optical zoom. The major downside is that it has no image stabilizer. What do you think?
If possible, can u tell me other nikon or canon cams with such feature?

My experience with Image Stabilization is with a Canon lens on a Canon DSLR. Essentially, IS helps alot in low light situations, or at long zooms. If you shoot with a flash all the time, or in otherwise bright situations, you won't need it, but if you're shooting indoors at night with no flash, or completely zoomed in on something while hand-held, IS helps a ton.

As for what has what, I recommend going to http://www.dpreview.com
It's a great site solely focused on digital photography. The specific forums are EXCELLENT sources of info.

With 10x zoom, image stabilization becomes a very welcome feature. Without a tripod it's very tricky to hold the camera steady at maximum zoom. Particularly in low light situations.

i imagine it really is how diverse human beings experience now. even as my little Canon S400 died very last year i did not replace it. i take advantage of an Xperia telephone for random snaps... that can actual workout consultation particularly nicely in good mild, and a DSLR for more effective severe issues. yet I have revealed phone pictures in the adventure that they are the in basic terms ones of the tale accessible. (excellent or glaring grunge for artwork... something that tells the tale for information). possibly i'm tempted by technique of the hot Canon SX50 with its 1000mm zoom for random flora and fauna photos, in spite of the indisputable fact that it nonetheless can't replace a DSLR and is in basic terms unable to seize quick difficulty flow at that length.

i have a 12x optical zoom sony dsc h1. i see a signiificant difference when i use img stabilizer especially at 12x zoom compared to one with img stabilizer disabled.

at 12x zoom use should use 1/500sec shutter speed or higher.
