According to LDS theology, God the Father is a resurredted, "exalted" man named Elohim, who was at one time NOT God. He was once a mortal man on another planet who, through obedience to precepts of HIS god, eventually attained godhood. The late Mormon apostle Bruce McConkie "Elohim, plural word through it is used as the exalted name-title of God the Eternal Father." ( Mormon Doctrine, 2nd ed. [Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1979], 224)

It would seem that the LDS god had a father god and GRANDFATHER and so on into the past forever.

BUT

Christian view God has always been God there is NOTHING greater then God

Ps 90:2 Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
Implicit throughout Isaiah 40-48 is the supreme soverignty and utter uniqueness of Yahweh in creation, beside who there is no other god.

can you explain this puzzle

It would seem that LDS have more in common with pagan ancient egyptian view, They held a monophysite ("one nature"). Divine nature and human nature are not different in kind but only in degree. This view allows for humans ( such as the Pharaoh ) to be exalted to the status of a god.

What does mormonism teach. man will become a god

Then bible clearly teaches man will NEVER become a god there will always be ONE God. Isa 44:6,8

I am not a Mormon, but share your puzzle. The answer that I received form this elders is this:
You have the right idea about the Mormon teaching on the nature of God, God's father etc. Jesus worked himself up to be God and they can too.
Of course that is at variance with both the Book of Mormon and the Bible, but their answer is that there is only one God with whom they have to do and that there are hundreds more out there and the Bible is written so long ago that the writers didn't know that there were other planets.

When I asked them to reconcile current LDS teachings with anything that they could call scripture (Bible, BOM, DC PGP, King Follet Funerary discourse or whatever), they could not do it.

Remember what 1 Peter 3:15 says about having an answer for the hope that lies within you. It seems that they dont have it.

The explanation is quite simple: The scriptures you have quoted refer to this planet Earth, whereas according to LDS theology Elohim resides on a planet named Kolob. Mormons maintain that there are many other populated planets in this Universe, which makes sense when you consider that LDS doctrine teaches that all who are worthy to do so, will eventually follow in the footsteps of God the Father and become gods to those beings they then populate a new planet with.

P.S.: I am not a member of the LDS Church, but I have studied their teachings quite thoroughly.

When you state what the "Christian" view is, please be aware that this is just your opinion of one possible way to interpret what the Bible teaches, and what Jesus taught. Others have a very different view of what the Bible teaches.

You need to clarify whether God is one person, three persons, or possibly more. Many Christians teach that there are three persons in the Godhead, yet there is only one God. When you understand that mystery you will understand how God was once a man, yet there has always been one God, and that we may yet become One with God; i.e. Gods ourselves. Yet there will always be just one true God. It is not a mystery to me, but perhaps it is to you.

Let's see what the Bible says. It doesn't say Peter get back in the boat, YOU can't walk on water. It doesn't say Jesus sent out the Apostles and told them not to heal or cast out devils, but to return and get him. It doesn't say we will be joint heirs of God, but our inheritance is just to float around as a wisp spirit. Jesus didn't say ONLY I have the faith to move a mountain. Was Jesus a man with a body of flesh? If He was the Son, then the Bible speaks of at least 2 generations.

If we have been given all the power and authority to act on behalf of God, then it can only be exercised in rightousness. If we do so as good stewards, will he not add more? Will we ever be greater than Heavenly Father? Of course not. But we will be blessed as His children to be LIKE Him.

From what I have studied, Elohim is the hebrew plural form of God and is used over 2000 times in the Hebrew bible. Eloah is the singular form and is only used 57 times.

Starting in Genesis, with the creation of the world, we can see that God said (Genesis 1:26): Let US make man in OUR image and after OUR likeness.

In Romans 8:16-17, the apostle Paul states the: the Spirit itself, beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

So, if Elohim, plural, is the primary word used in the Hebrew bible, if in the Old Testament, God indicates that there were others present in the creation, and in the New Testament, Paul indicates that we will be heirs of God, joint-heirs with Christ, and that we will be glorified together, then what is the difficulty with this teaching?

We only worship God the Father. There is nothing greater than him and he is our God. We have no other God besides him. We also have faith that through Jesus Christ we can receive eternal life.

I hope that this helps.

Do you want an explanation or "proof"...just as you stated YOUR view...of "christian view God has always been God thereis NOTHING greater than God"
You're right, WE have no other gods that are before or after him, we will worship no other god/gods. He is OUR God. It makes perfect sense that since we are HIS children, He was also a "child" once...
Our minds cannot understand the vastness of "everlasting"...because he is the eternal God. He will be our God forever...
It is what we believe. I cannot "prove" it to you. It would be the same thing as me saying to you:
"well, christians, can you explain this because I don't believe this way and you must be wrong."
You have your beliefs and we have ours.

Do I have to be mormon to answer that? The "Bible" you are referring to was first edited by King James and later edited by Martin Luther. I don't know about Mormonism but do you really think a power hungry king is gonna tell you everything, or is he gonna edit it to his satifaction(seen Bush in the news lately?). If you are tttarded enuff to believe that the bible you are reading is a first edition you may wanna try some Gerber's so you don't choke lil girl. By the way does the Golden Rule mean bash everyone's religion that doesn't approve of your fascist view's? and who spoke of that little inconvenient rule anyways?

We humans have a limited view of what we know, and what is real. As a father wants their children to grow up just like him and his wife, so does our Heavenly Father want us to be like him.

The Bible says we are Gods children, if we are his children then that means we have the possiblity to be like him.

I hope this makes sence to you.

i agree, there is not way to become a god because there is only one god, my question from here would be, when we ask mormons this they tell us that there is only one god for earth. and they say thats what the bible teaches..... of course they take that verse and have manipulated it to make it seem that way. so if they say there is onyl one god for our planet, then what dopes the bible mean when he says i am the beggining and the end none before none after.... so how does that say that there are other gods from other planets? it does nto say i am the only god for this planet, he says the one and only. period. end. dot.
