Calzaghe is not even in the same class as Hagler or Basilio.

{ } - yes basilio was a bleeder and would swell, but Hagler was a bleeder too.

there were fights early in his career where he bled (Briscoe being one). Nice to see you back Smitty. It's refreshing having you break my b*lls.

In either 12 or 15rds this would be a Marvelous victory by UD. Hagler fought his entire career at 160, he never ducked a single opponent and held the Undisputed Title at a time when acquiring all the belts was thought impossible forget about keeping the 3 main sanctioning bodies happy. Sorry, I deviated a bit.

Both Hagler and Basilio possessed a "beard" and were almost impossible to take off their feet. However, as I eluded to earlier Marvin was at home at 160 while Basilio probably was at his best at 147. Carmen did win the Middleweight Title from the great Sugar Ray Robinson (best Middle all time). Their fight was brutal but Basilio never disappointed the masses in attendance. He held the belt for only 6 months before the rematch and a win by Sugar Ray to recapture for the 5th time his Middleweight belt.

Intangibles, Basilio was often accused of not training hard enough for a fight, his record was 56W,16L,7D,w27by KO. Carmen also had problems with frail bones and often broke his hands, much like Arturo Gatti, but he fought through the pain. I see Basilio vs Hagler following the same rhythm that Hagler vs Roldan did. Carmen was a ferocious body puncher, just watch his 2nd fight against DeMarco, CB was practically out on his feet in the 5th but went to the body and took all the stamina right out of DeMarco finally stopping him in the 12th.

One other problem which would lead to a possible stoppage would be Carmen's perpensity to cut, Hagler's accuracy would tear Basilio's face apart and may have lead to a late rd TKO.

Marvin possessed stamina unparalleled as well as a well chiseled 160lb frame to go with his concrete chin. Basilio goes the distance but loses on all score cards by at least 4 rds. Leaving the ring saturated with his blood.

Hagler was not a bleeder, he may have been cut a few times. Brent, I think you may need to review some old bouts so that you can ascertain the difference between being cut and being a bleeder.

Hagler - W 62 (KO's 51) TF 67 - W pct 93% - KO pct 76% - wins over Minter, Hearns, Seales, Duran, Briscoe, Hamsho{2} and Mugabi - KO'ed by none - #35 ranked puncher - #17 ranked fighter

Basilio - W 56 (KO's 26) TF 79 - W pct 71% - KO pct 33% - wins over I. Williams, B. Graham, Saxton{2} and Robinson - KO'ed by Fullmer - #74 ranked fighter

Hagler stops Basilio by TKO or KO within 10 rds. In the modern era any fighter that is a bleeder runs the risk of any of his fights being stopped.

Marvin Hagler

Hagler in his prime beats anyone in his weight class. A fearless ruler of the Middleweight division for nearly a decade taking on all comers. His determination, will, granite chin, and, powerful knockout power would be the difference, Hagler KO 8.

1 zale is too tough for gibbons. 2 monzon was virtually unbeatable 3 hagler is just too classy for the onion farmer 4 pick 'em, but i'll lean slightly towards burley 5 greb has a higher workrate. 6 ketchel is too much for the tough lamotta 7 robinson on points in a close one. 8 papp could have been ranked high in the all time greats round 2: monzon could ko zale like graziano did. hagler vs burley, another pick 'em. but i'm giving a split decision to hagler. greb over ketchel by clear cut decision robinson over papp. greb wins the first fight with robinson, but sugar ray would win every rematch so long as he didn't get too old.

great fight! i see hagler building an early lead, perhaps a little frustrated by carmens relisency & determination. as the rounds go by, haglers combinations begin to mark basilio up. hagler wins by 9th round tko, due to cuts
