Hi there...generally when a cat begins to eliminate outside of the litterbox it signifies a medical problem such as a bladder infection (UTI), constipation or another problem. If she is having pain while using the box she associate the box with this avoid it. Additionally, if/when there's been any changes within the home, new family member, furniture, etc. or change in the type of litter brand, location of the litter box all of these will also contribute to her change in habits.

Have you changed the brand of litter recently? Is the box completely clean?

I once found that I had not cleaned the box in a while, so my cat used the basement floor next to the box. From that time on, that spot seemed to be a favorite place to mess....clean litter or not!

I've done audio for many veterinarian conferences and have managed to pick up a tip or two. Your cat is stressed, perhaps the litter box isn't as pristine as it needs to be, OR simply get another litter box, place in a different location and watch the problem disappear! Good Luck!

This usually means she is having pain when she goes. She thinks the pain is associated with the litter box, therefore she poops outside of it. Is she constipated? Does she cry out when she goes? You may need to get her checked out by her vet. If she is constipated, a good hairball remedy will do her some good.
