Get all the evidence that you have been seeking help (notes from doctors/therapists) records, etc and get your family to get you a lawyer (preferably one who used to be a military lawyer or knows the system, you can usually find yourself one right outside of a military post) and turn yourself in with the lawyer PRESENT!!!. If you turn yourself in and can prove you have a gambling problem and you have tried to sort it out they are more likely to take it easy on you than if you just straight took off.
I am not going to lie. You made a huge mistake. I knew a guy who went AWOL for a few months and they threw him in jail for a few months. If you turn yourself in be prepared to sit in a jail cell for a little while until you court date rolls around. You already proved your a flight risk, so don't ask for a handout. You'll probably be seperated from the army after a little while with a less than stellar disharge and you can go on with life. The Army is very into owning up to your own problems and seeing as you are a private they may take it easy on you and since you hadn't served very long try and push for an "initial entry seperation". Basically a general discharge that means you weren't cut out for the military. Getting a good military knowledgeable lawyer may help out here.
Trust me, you will never hold a decent job or ever get very far in life if you are AWOL. It is only a matter of time. The longer you wait the worse it is going to be.

Well with this being his moment time he left, there's a well probability they'll courts-martial him. When he get's to his publish, he will be located in pre-trial confinement. If he wasn't given an Art 15 for the primary time, they'll upload that too. The first time he'd be charged with Absent with out depart. The moment time shall be Desertation. The change is rationale. The moment time, he had no rationale on coming again to the Army. Bottom line is he might cross to jail for a minimum of three yrs. Plus they'll take all his pay, so not anything for you. Then obtained a dishonorable discharge. He would possibly not discover so much if any paintings considering that as quickly as they run a crook heritage verify those will exhibit up as federal criminal convictions. That's worse case. Best case, they bankruptcy him out. Just be all set for worst case, it's quite often the surely results. @ the entire different posters: You rather must learn the MCM. Whether a soldier is AWOL or a Deserter isn't dependant on how lengthy he has been long gone. What makes that selection is rationale. If a soldier leaves however meant to go back while he/she did some thing or noticed anyone, and many others, then they're charged with AWOL, without reference to how lengthy they have been long gone. A soldier might up and depart and not using a rationale on returning however get stuck two days later and lower back and he could be charged with Desertation. The 31 day cutoff is while a unit could have the soldier eliminated from thier rolls, ie open up the staff slot he/she is filling so the unit can get a substitute frame.

You're headed for the Big Chicken Dinner (bad conduct discharge) if you don't turn yourself in. Call the Airborne unit in Benning and arrange to get back. Have the GA people there prepared to meet with you when you arrive as well. It's time to take control of your situation. This question was a good first step.

Go back now. You may as well face the wrath of the great american war machine now. Otherwise you will never be able to live with yourself. We are all aware that gambling is an addiction and is treatable, but you have to be willing to help yourself first before you can see results. Good luck. Cheers =).

You need to contact your unit that you are suppose to be assigned to or have your therapist contact them. Let them know your situation and even though you might be facing some UCMJ actions, it is better to turn yourself in then to let it ride. Remember we are at war, and even though you are just AWOL you don't want your status turning into a "Deserter". And then again they might have already "Dropped you from the Rolls". Regardless you need to contact them now and not let it linger...the longer you wait the worse it can become.

GA is probably going to be your best bet. Continue with that and contact the Defence Dept. and ask them if you will be allowed to catch up once you are through your therapy and on the road to recovery. I think that you must demonstrate that you are honestly facing your addition to gambling and not just shirking your duties.

You posted this earlier & my answer is the same - I am being to doubt you are a deserter or that you want to fix it.
Do the right thing & turn yourself in! You signed up for commitment - be a man & keep it.

You are very lucky that you haven't been caught yet. You should turn yourself in...it's the honorable thing to do. The Army will catch on to you eventually anyway.
